Milwaukee Fastback Flip Pocket Knife Review
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
This is a review of the Milwaukee Fastback Flip Pocket Knife. It did not work as expected, I might have gotten a bad one. However I did like the look and the shape of the blade. Comes very sharp and comfortable in the hand.

Have used both of these for more then 4 years ,never had a issue with them being hard to open
I everyday carry a milwaukee fastback spring assisted knife and I love it, it's so rugged and i love it
I just bought one today. At first I could not flip it open, but after a few practice I can now flip it open . The secret is in the way you flick your wrist. Maybe a little dab of oil will help.
I have that knife, and found I was flipping it wrong. Push the button and flick it, not flip it. Flick it but with your wrist. 10% is arm and 90% is in the snap back of the wrist. Once you learn it will open each time.
I have one of these. I was able to loosen the hinge screw slightly and can flip it open. Surprised yours is so tight. I wonder if they started using a thread locker at some point
I'm wondering if 6 years ago they didn't have copper washers like the one I have which open really nice right from the get-go?
Its a tough cheap knife. 2 stage opening really you dangle it horiz to release the blade and then flip it. Its a liner lock. Its a great knife you have to let it break in and it will loosen up. You cant get a deploy blade with spring for this price. Work with it and youlll see the simplicity of it makes sense. Drop it in a hole...buy another.
Just bought the same knife, same problem. However, I bought the same one (with ridged bottom black blade) prior and the fastback worked great. It was 25$. I'm returning mine and spending the extra 10$ at home depot
Bought mine 5 years ago and it was a little stiff if I remember, but the more you play with it the looser it gets. It's held up quite well too, I've used it from doing maintenance, to camping, to cutting wood and using it with a ferro rod. It throws hella good sparks.

@Josh's life. Back when I bought that, I knew nothing of fixed blades, especially esee. For the most part now I only use fixed.
I have two in his knives and I mainly think it’s the league Alibey in Canada and that’s why also they don’t make an automatic one in Canada
Yeah it's stiff. The two screws spin dependantly together though. I gave mine about 1/16 turn (with the right size torx) And made it smoother to deploy. They also make spring assist, or u can work on ur flick lol
After about a month of use mine wore in to the point were I could flick it open. I think it's the liner lock that holds it up from flicking open, but it'll get there.
I once used my swiss army knife to scrape off epoxy I had covering the blade of the my Milwaukee knife I start scraping it and realizing the blades coming up with the epoxy. I don't know how that even happens
Just got one, mine flips right open with one hand but it does take learning the technique
On the Fastback I bought one and used it for a little while eventually the flip got easier and easier but it's still stayed solid
Did you put any oil..???
You need a specail technique to do it I can do it I just had to practice with it.
i have one and had the same problem.I used a drop of oil and works great.
That'd be cool if there was a way to put a coil spring in that pocket knife
Great pocket knife & Company!
If it’s probably illegal in Canada, how come they sell it at Home Depot Canada?
Hey man you may have got a lemon mine works perfect ang gets better when it gets broken in
I just got one that is super tight as well. They just need a break in period.
steel? hardeness?
my friend has this knife and i’ve learned how to open and close one while playing with it
I've had mine for almost 10 years, still in good shape. Mine opened ok out of the packaging, but those bolts can be loosened, although Milwaukee puts red locktite on them.
Hey I have the folding knife same exact one that he does but I really really want to convert it into a fully automatic switchblade knife can anyone tell me or teach me how to do it,??? God dam I'd be hella happy about it and myself for doing it or if anyone close by could even just do it for me would be cool to feels like a dream that will never come true I mean I've had switchblade knifes from wish and all and loved them like I do my otf switchblade knife right now but this just sounds fun to though any advice gladly appreciated
Funny thing is, I purchased one of these knives and it opened beautifully using the release button. One finger one push it was awesome. Unfortunately I lost the knife on a job, went back to the same Home Depot, purchased the same knife and it performed totally different.
I carry that exact one I’m the US California and it can open really easy, like I open it with ease
it will get easier to open once its been used for a while. Mine opens up easy. Bought one for my daughter and it was tough to open at first.
The TXB08 from the Milwaukee shockwave set will take care of that
I live in Canada, and I bought one last Friday...even after watching your review. And mine opens perfectly...in one motion. It isn’t spring assisted...but they’ll probably try to ban this knife too😳🤨😡

Actually it was illegal to begin with as a gravity knife

It’s not Milwaukee’s fault a knife that can be flipped open by “centrifugal force (flipping)” is illegal. They had to make it Canadian safe 😑 so you wouldn’t run wild and over take the country.
I don't do videos so can't show you, but there is another guy reviewing this and he has a good handle on opening it. He says flip it like a Frisbee, I say start of that way to get the hang of it, but eventually you see its more of a flick.

Nice! Glad I seen your comment. Frisbee style worked Didn't open any other way for me but this worked.
I have this same knife. I love mine. Five years of daily carry. Its still perfect!
I don’t have the same problem as you when opening with one hand
It is possible to open with one flick and close with one hand. But it takes more practice and effort. i wish it were designed just like the Fastback utility blade. My only guess is they had legal concerns, but the Fastback utility blade mechanism is truly in its own category. It would be great in a fixed blade.
Never had any issues with mine
My understanding is that in order to import the knife into Canada, they had to make it so it couldn't be flicked open.
My idea was to superglue the button so it works like a normal knife and to make grooves with my dremel, if i ruin it i’ll buy anotherone
Oh gosh I couldn’t t even figure out how to close the knife watching videos!!! He got the knife free and I said I’d keep it for my garden. It works awesome I just could not get it closed. My husband had to show me! Push the metal part to the side 🤦♀️
That really sucks man you got a bad one. I've had this knife for like 3 years now and it still opens as smooth as butter.
A friend of mine let me sharpen his and for some reason, my favorite diamond stone wouldn't touch it. I spent four hours sharpening it and it's still not up to my liking.
Had one and lost it because the carry clip became loose and it bounced out of my pocket without noticing. Shame was a good knife.
Everytime I buy one i take it out of the box and sit and swing it open for about 5 minutes. It loosens up on its own and becomes just as easy to open as the razor.
Very informative
The button is safety I think so it’s good, I can open it with one hand because I just press the button and swing it open
I have that knife.you have to break it in . mine was tight at first but now it opens like a champ. keep working it.

I. Had mine almost 3 years it's all broken in I did loosen up torx bolts a tiny bit here's a little oil and it works perfect I added an edge to the blade the great knife for what it is it's also good for sheetrock
I am with you 100 percent. Love the Milwaukee utility knife version one hand flip open one hand closed... easy peasy. saw the folding knife with better blade instead of box-cutter blade at the store tonight and bought it and had the same experience as you. won't flip open unless you jerk your arm out of the socket trying to flip it open.and takes two hands to close thanks to this stupid lock I don't know why they need that extra lock. the button is a lock it already has on the utility knife. Disappointed I want the utility knife-like action but the blade of the folding knife

Was expecting the same when I just got mine. That extra lock you gotta press to close it rubs against the blade during the opening phase. Lube helps some but not enough to even be in the same ballpark as the flip utility knives. Those have smooth sweet action.

That's what I was gonna say.Oil it.
If you're in the market for a knife in the $15 range, buy one . However, if you wanna spend a little more, say $30-$40 . Just buy 2 . I bought this knife bc it was red lol. When you drop it in high grass or w/e, it's obv easier to find. . . I usually spend more on a work knife ,either Kershaw or Gerber and I'm saying this knife is on their level . . . Honestly, I just bought it so time will tell, but rn I'm legit impressed .
It’s a weird technique: (button side up) press the button then flip DOWN then OUT.

Mine is so tight, just bought it, this is the method that worked
The way you're trying to flip it won't work. It does do what it's supposed to do. They assume you understand that it takes a little technique to learn how to flip a knife. It's all in the wrist. This is an excellent buy. I've been carrying this over much more expensive options.
Gotta bust it in man. It's brand new dude!

Gerbers too
It’s brand new so it just has to be used so it get wore in to be able to do it how you want
Mine opens easily, I'm in Ontario.
I bought it and was fooled by the one hand fastback opening mine opens just like yours in the video that's my only disappointment up here on the east coast of 🇨🇦 PEI

Needless to say, just loosen the pin screws and it opens with zero problem.
If you continually open and close it, it will flip and close easier. Brand new out of box is a bit tough a first
You don’t do the opening motion right.
my knife can flick open easily when i got it.
Brought one today and its as still as and wont open with out using 2 hands..not happy with it, but ill try to take it apart and mod it.
I have the same knife and I can flip it open no problems
Mine is exactly the same I took it back and it was the same. So I just excepted it
Here is the states the same knife is tough to flip it open.
I am in canada and mine flips out fine
Just bought mine. Exact same opinion. I get that it doesn't have a thumb stud because your thumb is occupied with the button but an index finger flipper would have changed this from a knife that I'm going to return to the best $15 knife out there. Horrible execution of an otherwise very solid knife at that price.
BTW, if you want it to really flip open, just loosen the pivot torx screw a hint. But check with your local laws! Make sure it doesn’t become what is considered a gravity assisted knife. Some laws are very fuzzy, but I suppose one can construed it as a prohibited weapon in some countries and states. Similarly you can tighten it to ensure that no one can whip it open.
Bro just let the spring break in, I bought the same knife and it didn’t do it at first but after a week of owning it, the spring broke in and now you can flip it out just gotta give it time
I can careless on how it opens..as long as it opens..my thing is how does it cut..thats what i use it for..the just to keep swinging it open..
Hold it upside down and flick it with your wrist that's why the pocket clip is reversible mine works fine one handed open
You can cut off the stripped end of your torx driver.
I can’t keep mine sharp.
Don’t try to flip it open. Try pressing the button while holding knife parallel to the ground. In one quick motion go down then back up.
You just have to lubricate it and operate it for several days. You’ll get the hang of it.
The blade gets dull real fast
You were trying to loosen the wrong side of the pivot screw!! That is why you stripped your screwdriver! A good quality torx bit driver will not strip! The screw itself will strip out! Try loosening the other side of the pivot screw and see if that works!! My same knife works extremely well with a very light flick of the wrist while pushing the button!!!!!
I also bought one and it too wouldnt flip open. Took it all a[art to try to get it to work and two of the little torx screws that hold the scales on broke right off in the backer piece and now cant go back together at all. Called Milwaukee and they want me to spend $8.00 to ship it back to them so they can see it. Original price was $15.00 so another $8.00 to get it repaired at my expense seems foolish to me. Milwaukee wont stand behind what the sell....They just lost a customer.

Didn't need to take apart. Its a sharp flick of the wrist and opens each time.

DUH!!! It DID NOT OPEN with a sharp flick of the wrist.....thats why I took it apart
Mine flips fast I’m in Michigan
Mine flicks right open , you're not whipping it correctly. That's all .. no screwing with it necessary
The trick to opening this knife is to hold the button while using a very quick thrusting motion as if cracking a whip or a rat tail using a backhand motion. You almost reverse the motion slightly. Opens 100% of the time using that method.
Just practice. It works differently than the utility knife.
Guys could this be any easier of a fix? Canada makes them tighten the pin. loosen the pin and it flips out. The amount of soy consumption is so high now a days that no one can think for them selves. "It's broken and dose not work! I'm so very disappointed!" LMAO
Hold the boten i have one so i kow
It's not a spring knife. Use your wrist and it will flip open properly - takes a bit of practice. Great cheap knife that you won't cry about when it gets lost.
Yeah I'm not real happy with mine. Always buy red tools... This knife needs work... Tried wd-40. still the same resistance...🙄... I'm in TN and mines not spring assistant btw

This was a YOU problem NOT a knife problem, You really needed to spend some time getting to know the NEW knife you purchased not expecting it to be a clone of the older one you have sir! It took my wife about 3 to 5 minutes to have hers swinging open first time every time. The advantages she had where two fold 1.) no pre-learnt behaviors. 2.) no pre-conceived expectations
Also mine is fresh out of the package
I almost fell off the toilet whan he said Not Very Pleased. I think the problem is with his wrist...
WD-40.
Yeah it’s a pain in the ass. You have to wear it out until it gets smoother.
I just was given one in the U.S.... Ya gotta Flick the Frog outta it.
Return it to H D
Instal spring modifying back spacer contacting choil , wallah , full semi auto knife 😐😑😐
It does flip open bro you just flipped it completely wrong 😂😂🤣🤣
Try oil it first
ha sliver!
Dude you need to lubricate the bushings, how can you be frustrated if did not even contact the company, I am really annoyed by people you try the product and then bitch about it online without trying all possible solutions.
I own this knife. The metal is crappy, and the knife overly heavy for no reason (it's not more rugged than lighter knives). Your buying a knife from a Chinese company that specializes in making power tools. You could very easily spend the same amount of money on a cheap Gerber or Kershaw knife that is lighter and probably better metal than stainless tool steel.
Just got one - wouldn’t open - complete POS
Tes poche.. J'ouvre le mien fast

Mine flips out faster cuz I'm in Florida. Everybody flips out faster in Florida LOL.
