The Milltown Cemetery attack (also known as the Milltown Massacre) took place on 16 March 1988 in Belfast's Milltown Cemetery. During a Provisional IRA funeral, Ulster Defence Association (UDA) member Michael Stone attacked the crowd with grenades and pistols, killing three and wounding over sixty.
As the coffins were being lowered into the ground, a burst of gunfire was heard and this was initially mistaken for the usual paramilitary firing party. Some people even applauded. However, it was not a salute. A lone Ulster Defence Association member from East Belfast named Michael Stone had infiltrated the crowd in an attempt to eliminate the republican leadership with several RGD-5 hand grenades and two handguns, a 9mm Browning Hi-Power semi-automatic pistol and a .357 Magnum revolver. Stone killed three people, including IRA member Kevin Brady, who had attempted to disarm him. The whole event was recorded by television news cameras.
Stone made his escape towards the motorway, chased by several members of the crowd, but continued firing his handguns and throwing hand grenades at his pursuers. Stone made it as far as the M1 motorway, but was caught by the crowd, who began beating him and shouting that they would kill him. He was eventually put in the back of a car and was being driven away to be shot by the IRA, when the car was intercepted by the Royal Ulster Constabulary, who arrested him and took him to Musgrave Park Hospital for treatment of his injuries. Michael Stone later confessed to the three killings at Milltown and a further three paramilitary killings committed beforehand. The final toll was three dead and upwards of sixty injured.

you say you can't believe this man is free today ? when they freed all of them on the good friday agreement. they released men who had done alot worse than stone..its a sad fact but even now in 2021 theres still killings happening over there..because some men just can't let it go ???

Standing amongst armed members of the IRA In the heartland of republican West Belfast definitely took some balls, and he didn't flee to any RUC handlers, his get away driver abandoned him when the crowd capture Stone and then the police apprehended him..and that's not putting your life on the line, !!!

Only a loyalist! Throwing grenades at, and firing shots at, mourners at a funeral takes no balls at all. People don't tend to be armed at funerals. He ran like a rat and the ruc saved his life. The provos drove massive bombs the length of Britain, with great risk to themselves, killed several leading brit politicians, inflicted the greatest daily loss of life on the brit army since ww2, mortared Downing Street, blew Thatcher from her bed, etc, etc. Loyalists killed taxi drivers, not to mention threw blastbombs at 7 year olds on their way to school and peddled drugs to children. Go compare sonny. As the former head of mi5 said, the provos were organised, disciplined, effective and ideologically driven, while describing loyalists as an undisplined, sectarian gang - the fact they have killed almost 40 people since gustys expression of "true and abject remorse" kind of sums them up. Yes, at NORMAL funerals people don't carry firearms but when it comes to sub human scum burying murdering trash then it's a different story, don't be so naive to think there wasn't armed provos (cowards) there . Stone has balls of steel to stand in a pit of vipers, I don't know how he could stand the foul stench of the lowly taig. Your totally ludicrous statement about WW2 is pathetic and it appears to slip your mind that your glorious criminal ira murdered more of your own people than that where ever killed by the British state. It's a very dangerous thing when you start believing your own propaganda, take the blinkers off and see the truth. Loyalists murdered innocent catholics because they had no legitimate military targets. It was very easy for the provos as the was a multitude of police stations and army bases to target. As for throwing pipe bombs at children, as usual your double standards are shameful, Warrington, Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball. Two children slaughtered by a bunch of cowards, yeah balls of steel there, planting bombs in bins and sculking into the crowd, brave men.
