spaceye it would also be much more efficient if the contestant stated the question clearly before spelling some words. seriously the way some of these contestants talk made me confused, especially that quote and quote guy. he could just say A.B.C and it would take less time and less confusion.

He would have answered a phone that was probably on a cord, then gotten to his computer which may or may not have been on already, then had to open internet explorer which didn't automatically go to Google, if you typed something in the search bar without a web address it would just go to a 404 error page. So he would have then had to open Google, AOL, or Ask Jeeves, and THEN typed the question in.

They deadass called the same person for the 1st and 2nd question

There was one Phone-a-Friend who could be heard typing on the keypads through the speaker. After he hung up, Meredith joked that "his mind was working to find the answer. I could hear it!" OMG. Best. Comeback. Ever!

These were filmed ages ago. Even nowadays there are some people of older generations that still don't know you can "Google" pretty much anything. Given how long ago these were recorded, it's not exactly a shock that someone of Regis' age didn't know what these people were doing. Don't be so ignorant.

Two things going on here at once I think. First, the internet was much newer and therefore less ubiquitous (also a hell of a lot slower). Second, Regis knew we're talking about a Google search here but he wants to save face as much as possible that the show is totally legit and no funny business is going on.

Phone-a-Friend was supposed to be about what the friends know, not looking up the answers when you call somebody. Back in the days of dial-up, the integrity of PaF was great, but in the boom of technology when cellphones got into the trend, not so much. It was fair that Phone a Friend had to go.

GSN used to accelerate the show a bit, if you hear carefully you can hear that everything is sped up a bit

You know I cant believe it took the producers as long as it did to put a stop to this-one of the first things I thought was how easy it would be to just use the internet for the answers.

Alex Shepherd Look up Pat Gibson's million pound question in the UK version. It's rather interesting that the phone a friend he used was suddenly certain of the answer after 20 seconds. What's even more interesting is that since then, high-value questions were worded in such a way that nobody could use the information to decipher the answer by looking it up on Google within 30 seconds. But either way, the instance where the guy was cut off, do you know if there's footage of it here on KZread?
