From what I can dig up this was part of Johnny Cash's 1977 Christmas Special. Johnny was 45 years old, Carl Perkins was also 45, Jerry Lee Lewis was 42, and Roy Orbison was 41. 44 years later only Jerry Lee is still with us. But what a legacy they've all left.

The song was written 99 years ago, and popularized 83 years ago by the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Famer Sister Rosetta Tharpe (Johnny Cash's favorite singer). The Sun Records Three have well-known Gospel roots, and Orbison was certainly a "spiritual" singer. All four men (as did Elvis) do themselves proud in their visits to Gospel.

the most amazing part of this is how jerry lee lewis never sings a song the same way twice, and yet each and every time i've heard him sing live, it's as if he's sung it that particular way forever. absolute confidence in himself. he just understands music better than us, i guess. for him, it's like having a conversation, no need for us to practice what we're about to say as we speak, no, we just speak naturally and with no deliberation. that's how well he gets music/songs, he's not thinking about it at all, he just sings and the phrasing is always perfect.

They are all gone now. May they all Rest In Peace. I played this over the sound system, on a steam train excursion last night. (It was a private trip) You could have heard a pin drop when it was over. Fortunately I didn’t get yelled at! Lol

So good these four gentlemen does this!!!!!!
Roy Orbison is in a league of his own when it comes to singing.
We cannot over look the phenomenal groups both Roy & Johnny later teamed up with both The Traveling Wilburys & The Highwayman! 👍🏻🇺🇸👏🏻🔥🙏🏼
All of them riding the train to glory together now.
Saw Carl Perkins at Elvis Week in 1997. It was an honor!

RIP Jerry Lee. PREACH
All gone but not forgotten, thanks for the smiles and tunes.
Listen to the beautiful Harmony and it's all for our precious Elvis.
You can hear the conviction of and solid belief of the words that each man sang in spite of the challenges some of them endured in their chosen profession.

I'm not sure the condition of any of these men's souls at the time but I sure can feel the holy Ghost conviction🔥🔥🔥🔥
This might be the most legendary quartet ever assembled to sing a song in the history of popular music. All 4 of their resumes are off the charts.
Love it 1000 % !!! History speaks loud and clear !! 🇺🇸🇺🇸✝️✝️👍👍❤❤
There's only one word BRILLIANT
Thanks for posting this video.

I am older than them. They made life great in those days.
They’re now all in heaven. God bless these legends!
the most amazing part of this is how jerry lee lewis never sings a song the same way twice, and yet each and every time i've heard him sing live, it's as if he's sung it that particular way forever. absolute confidence in himself. he just understands music better than us, i guess. for him, it's like having a conversation, no need for us to practice what we're about to say as we speak, no, we just speak naturally and with no deliberation. that's how well he gets music/songs, he's not thinking about it at all, he just sings and the phrasing is always perfect.
Classic, solid gold, 'THE MEN' look fabulous and have all gone to heaven to sing for us at the wedding feast.

I know the third guy from a Columbo episode. Also played a singer there. What a coincidence... ;)
