Million Dollar Cars - Pierce Arrow, Silver Arrow

The Pierce Silver Arrow was basically a car way ahead of its time. It had styling features and design features that were probably ten years ahead of its time, especially in its aerodynamic form.
When a young designer, Phil Wright, couldn't convince General Motors to build his daring new car he took his designs to Pierce Arrow.
Wright was told to have the first Silver Arrow ready for the 1933 New York Auto show. Wright and the engineers battled over how long the car should be, whether it should be a two door or a four door and hundreds of other details. But they made their deadline.
It was very far ahead of its time. And I'm sure that people who saw it recognized it for being just overwhelmingly impressive as a car of the future.
It's still gonna be always considered like a Mona Lisa of the automotive world.

The design elements of Art Deco had taken the world by storm, supplanting the earlier design motifs of Art Nouveau and BeauxArt of the pre and post WWI period. The popularity of The International Exposition Of Modern Decorative And Industrial Arts held in Paris in 1925 was the catalyst for the movement. The design elements of Art Deco were highly popular and were incorporated in glass, metal, jewelry, architecture (ex. The Chrysler Building), movie palaces, fashionable clothing, everyday household items, ocean liner interiors (ex. SS Normandie), furniture, and more. The splendidly stunning Silver Arrow was the result of the Art Deco movement at it’s height. What an auto!

I love this channel so much, thank you. So informative and well presented I'm stunned it isn't on TV anymore given the quality of the production.

There is a Silver Arrow in the movie the Gumball Rally ... pay close attention when the guy goes to pick up the Rolls he is to deliver. Yup, partially obscured by a post between garage doors in none other than a Pierce Silver Arrow. Not kidding, I spotted it just the other day.

We found what we believe to be a 1928 Pierce Arrow Sedan basket case at our storage yard that will be headed to our auction. Can you advise where to find the engine number/VIN ?

The front reminds me of a Triumph Mayflower, even the slab sided design. Obviously this car is not comparable to a Triumph Mayflower but the front looks similar.

"Should have held on to it" Haven't done the work but my guess is that $10,000 put it the stock market in 1932 would be worth much more than $1,000,000. Today.

I have never heard of this until now. It’s kind of a weird mismatch of art deco versus brass era stuff.
