Dude, your wife is a very sharp cookie. Her summary of this film even made me realize something that had been staring me in the face the whole time: This film showed me a theme throughout at least three of Eastwood's main characters where he's dragging the past with them. In Unforgiven, Will Munny was trying to shuck his regrettable past; in Gran Torino, Walt was trying to do the same; in Million Dollar Baby, Frankie had unresolved issues with his daughter that revealed itself in the form of Freeman's narration. Another excellent reaction by you guys.

It's alarming to me how many see film only as a vehicle too make them feel good/happy. 'A consequence of the dummying down of America, I guess. People used to understand storytelling. Now it's all pyrotechnics, kill-counts, and burning rubber. I'm glad this reaction was a smart one. Kudos, guys -

After ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, this is my favorite film. I'm so glad you reacted to it. And that you did such a an excellent job. You get this movie. And many seem not to. And it's so deep. So deep. You're spot on about so much: Yes, the whole movie is a letter to Frankie's daughter. And yes, it had to be Morgan Freeman narrating it. And yes, Frankie sacrificed himself to save Maggie from suffering any more pain. The priest had told him: "If you do this thing, you'll be lost". He accepted that and he believed it, and he still went ahead and did it to save her from suffering. There's a level of loving in this film that puts it so far above other movies. It's just a very profound film. Excellent reaction. You both just went up 10 notches in my regard.

I see this making the rounds. I only finally watched it myself this year. What an incredible piece of cinema. Worth all the accolades. Yet? The person that pushed this on me refrained from warning the extent of heartbreak this movie induces. For those out their that send these recommendations, not sure how that is done exactly, when it comes to things that are going to have a stark emotional impact on the viewer it is fine to inform of it. I felt a little violated by not having a heads up and it happens the content of this film keys into some personal trauma of my own. I literally was f'd up for two days after. Though in turn that does speak for how well done this film is and the acting for that matter, holy smokes but just saying. When there are things that you know might be a bit much just give them an advance warning.
