Milling Machine Head Stabilizer

Ғылым және технология

In this video I demonstrate the mechanism I made to stabilize the Z Axis (vertical axis) on my round column milling machine.

That is a very simple and functional design. Well done! Cheers from Canada!

Did you try the stabilizer with the hand crank (formerly fish out of water like you mentioned)? If you get less than .001" with the power lift, how bad is it with the stabilizer if hand cranking instead?

Sadly I didn’t measure with the hand crank and the stabilizer.

Did you take any measurements to judge the performance?

Yes. My results are consistently leas than 0.001” movement from top to bottom of its travel.

It's always very satisfying to make machines better and easier to use. But I think I would have fixed a laser pointer on the head and point it to an opposite wall :)

cheap laser pointers are very inaccurate.

@@nodriveknowitall702 You'd think so. I tried using one to setup the chassis on a dragbike. When I double checked with the plumb Bob, I was damn glad I hadn't welded anything. I may have screwed it up. You may be right. But the result was a 150 mile an hour machine that goes arrow straight.
