    Glad to see you posting videos again. Your method of firewood production certainly makes good use of the equipment you have at hand. At least by milling the knotty log you get nice flat cuts and no odd twisted and split pieces. Looks like you were making 4x4ish cants and then sawing those to your desired length. When you get a lump sum cash injection, they do make some nice commercial vertical style firewood splitters (Eastonmade Axis and WolfeRidge just came out with their version) that would get the job done in the traditional manner.

    How long have you had the Grapple for the tractor? I sure use the heck out of mine. I started putting my fire wood in the metal frame of an IBC tote. I cut on one side an entrance slot so I can load and unload the wood with out reaching over the edge. It is a game changer for me. Now I can use the forks on the tractor to bring a full tote up to the back door for that months use.

  • @NorthwestSawyer

    @NorthwestSawyer

    I got one of those frames with the intention of doing the same. I had previously used a wooden pallet with sides on it. I haven’t gotten around to cutting a side out of the metal cage. I’ve had the grapple for at least four years I think. I wanted the extra control for setting the wood up to be cut.

    What are you burning in looks like stove lengths, just curious about creosote and resin build up in the flu. Its too warm here for fires at least 45 weeks out of the year (will be 90 over the weekend). At 1st I thought the lumber was better than the big box 'stuff' in terms of knots but then saw the fracture faces and understood the serious structural integrity issues in the wood.
