@ Alex Hefner If you are interested in a "serious" indication for a listening that helps the knowledge of Pink Floyd's work, then in my opinion the best thing to do is to identify the point in which their maturity has materialized and then continue chronologically in their golden age. "The Wall" is, unfortunately, both the point of arrival of that era and the beginning of the end of the official line-up (and therefore of Roger Waters' lyrics). The turning point, however, was in 1971 with the Meddle album and, in particular, with the "Echoes" Suite of over 23 minutes. It was composed of the dozen "surviving movements" of the initial 36, then reduced to 24 etc., during the refinements in the tour live performances of the previous album: "Atom Heart Mother" 1970-71. They worked like this, first the live Jams ... then the recording of the best result. You have 2 different options: 1 - the second side of the Meddle vinyl: m.kzread.info/dash/bejne/g6qst8uEacTWf7Q.html This is the studio version recorded between January and August 1971 (I listened to it live in Italy on June 19) 2 - the 2 parts (first and last track) of the DVD Film-Live "Pink Floyd at Pompeii": m.kzread.info/head/PLqtNkQJqvJ6YtPjWF1NRZDYis4xgjnGs2 (also the other songs deserve !!!) This second is my suggestion, but the two parte in sequence!!!

Roger Waters is an unmatched lyrical genius. David Gilmour is an unmatched musical/choral/melody genius. Their personalities are literally oil and water/the very definition of polar opposites. And yet almost all of the undisputed masterpieces by Pink Floyd that will live on for centuries were the collaborations between the two. You wish they were able to co-exist on better terms so we could have catalogs of more transcendent epic music, but we really should just be grateful we got as much as we ultimately did before the implosion....
