Military Sealift Command • Trilateral Replenishment At Sea

The USNS Charles Drew (T-AKE-10) of Military Sealift Command conducts a trilateral Replenishment At Sea (RAS), providing fuel and cargo to the guided missile destroyer USS Stockdale (DDG-106), vertical lift of cargo (VERTREP) to the Australian frigate HMAS Anzac (FF-150), and fuel to the Japanese helicopter destroyer JS Ise (DDH-182). Filmed on April 19, 2016.

    Great to see strong allies working together , the Aussie's, Japan and the USN. The JS Ise is a handsome ship but kind of silly calling her a Helo DDG which is a PC move to get them built probably. When could easily be called LPH. Semper Fi

    I remember doing this...way back in the 1950s on a WW I era Sumner class Destroyer...over 60 years ago...not much has changed...except for the air delivery by chopper...

    Allen M Sumner class was from mid to late WW2, not WW1.

    Even in the 21st century, warships just GOT to have a tall mast and wide spars, echoing the age of sail. Must be a regulation somewhere that preserves the tradition!

    If we design floating crate with parachute we could use C17 or C5 for safe and fast replenish at sea for submarine and surface fleet and equip the ship with crane to pick up frequent fresh food and mails weekly at fraction of the cost and all supply are safely prepared from USA with dependable quality

    Helicopter is too short range otherwise it ok but not long range enough for highly classified missions and submarine operation
