gonna be 100% honest, I went into the movie it was with very low expectations, after trying to stomach through it and somehow managing, I came out feeling nothing but pain and betrayal for what I watched, I have done a ton of research on the Napoleonic Era, and this just tried to shove it into the drain for no reason

Didn't even make it an hour into the movie, just got up and left before the coronation scene.

@@OCGangsta It was like Alexander all over again, though less accurate. If you want a good Napoleon movie, find a copy of Waterloo (1970) somewhere. If there's a movie that deserves a digital remaster, it's that.

Yes Waterloo is good. I also think the TV series film thing of Napoleon was good as well.

even if we don't take into account how historically accurate the movie is it was generally just a bad fucking movie

@@OCGangsta sure, why not 😊 I kind of tuned you out when you had your ridiculous feud with TheRoaringSpitty, so if you actually do have a certification or even a historical degree I probably missed it. More to the point, as a military historian myself, I fail to see the problem. It's a movie, not a documentary, and Ridley Scott has always been clear on that; I don't think anyone would make the mistake of thinking this is meant to be an accurate representation. Not the way people make the mistake of thinking the grand but still flawed 1970 epic Waterloo is an accurate representation of the titular battle; for an example of this, see Nick Hodges' video essay on Waterloo. And honestly, this is fairly on-brand for Scott, most of his historical films have had some serious flaws with accuracy; The Last Duel and maybe All the Money In the World have been the only ones so far that have bucked the trend (even Black Hawk Down put Sergeant Eversman in the thick of the fighting from start to finish, whereas in fact he was evacuated with McKnight's convoy). And finally, a historically flawed movie doesn't do nearly as much harm these days as say Gods and Generals did back in 2003; nowadays, historians real or amateur such as you and I have access to the tools, such as KZread or Twitter, to point out the errors and tell the true story that people just didn't have back then, unless they were actually professors or scholars with the full resources of an institution. www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/napoleon-facts-ridley-scott-joaquin-pheonix-hollywood0/

Alright well yes I got my degree and secondly the feud with stggc was because they were grooming minors. Is it wrong of me to expose that?

@@charleslarrivee2908 this just deteriorates from it more because you could write it in a different setting and it would work. If you intend to make a film based on history, you have a duty to the history to try and make it as accurate as possible, otherwise, as I said above, just make your own original film.

  • @charleslarrivee2908

@@tomirk4404 by that logic, then, Christopher Nolan had a duty to NOT show Oppenheimer as being morally conflicted about the atom bomb as he was in the movie, and to NOT soft-pedal his connections to the Communist party. Yet I don't see anyone outside one of the writers for Commentary magazine making an issue of it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander, after all.

Ridley Scott lost his Moxie. Coming from the guy who made Black Hawk Down (which isn't entirely accurate) this is disappointing. Then again Scott either makes great films or garbage.

I feel like they tried too much to the point of everything going bad, I mean when seeing Marie Antoinette's execution, I mean she died with more dignity than anyone else at the time, Sophie Scholl and her brother came in second, then there was his carrier which they tried to box in, honestly it feels likes a repeat of Alexander, too much in a short time, I mean historical movies should be halted, especially ones this ambitious, I like what I saw of Shogun and look forward to it, I'll just pirate Waterloo & Sharpe, that is good historically accurate
