The fleur-de-lis between the swords are an element that is also present on the state coat of arms. Just take a closer look.
Raspberry colour of Ukrainian military flag also represents the flag traditions of Zaporozhian Cossacks and Cossack Hetmanate.

2:57 officialy this pink colour is called "raspberry colour". Ukraine put this colour on their military flag because it represents Zaporozhye kazaks, who were like half-military organisation who defended their lands from Tatars and then Poles. We can also find raspberry colour on a flag of Kuban or Krasnodar Krai in Russia. This is because Zaporozhye kazaks were forced to move to Caucasus by Katherine II.
Actually, that colour on the Ukrainian war flag is referred to as "malynovyi," meaning "raspberry," and it's considered distinct from purple or pink (but that probably has to do with different cultures perceiving colour differently). It's a common flag colour throughout central and eastern Ukraine, and especially in the Zaporizhzhian Oblast, where the colour is additionally featured on the Oblast flag.
Nice video! In Ukraine, we call it raspberry color. The color represents Cossacks!
Great thanks from Ukraine! Ireland has amazing military flag too.
My Grandfather served with the Portuguese Navy for almost 30 years and our family has a rich history of serving with the navy until my Father emigrated to Canada. I remember visiting my Grandparents when I was young and seeing a giant banner in the living room with the words Honrai a Pátria que a Pátria vos contempla (Honor the Fatherland for the Fatherland beholds you) Those flags and motto's that are eternal not only to the Country but the families that serve. Another great video General Knowledge!

6:24 Red and blue Portuguese shield. The griffin - symbolizes guarding and vigilance in the defense of the Fatherland and the law. The star - the need for action to contemplate all the cardinal directions in search of union. The silver helmet - represents the figure of the military man.
Note on the Moldovan army flag the eagle has its wings spread, as to show power, which is opposed to the national flag with the wings tucked in.

@@royale7620 We have some folk running in uniforms around borrowing ammunition from other countries during exercises? Not the fault of the folk in the military, they do their best with what they're given. We used to have a serious amount of tanks. Gone, we sort of rent some from our German neighbours. We had a decent (for our size) airforce. I wonder how many planes we can still put in the air that are able to do anything beyond search and rescue. We always used to have a small but pretty decently outfitted navy. I believe we currently have sort of half a sub, and some hospital and supply ships. Maybe a frigate rotting at the dock sides. So.... in answer to your question: yeah, sorta, but nothing you'd actually take seriously unless you're Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino, or another one of those tiny countries. Mind you I would prefer not to need military by far but not having any when everyone else does, doesn't sound good either.
I like the old imperial german battle standard. Its very iconic looking
As a Canadian I instantly knew Canada wouldn’t be mentioned in this video
9:52 I don’t know if you mentioned this in another video, but for the Philippines, when the national flag is hoisted upside down (the red on top), it means the country is in a state of war.
Thank you for including Ireland in a lot of your videos. We are such a small nation and it's great to see Ireland being talked about, especially in this video since we have such a small military we aren't really considered at all
Hey Gil, The Serbian writing at the bottom means "For the freedom and honour of the Fatherland" (Za Slobodu i Cast Otacbine). A lot of cool flags, I think ours in BG is still relevant, have come across with it here and there. It's funny, but also sad how "С нами бог" is actually in Russian ("God is with us") or a very old version of Bulgarian/Slavic.
Lol " I didn't like their flag so I took the liberty of redesigning their national flag" lololol

Hey so just a bit of background. The irish volunteers were set up in response to the ulster volunteer force which was set up in order to resist home rule for ireland, through violence if necessary. The irish volunteers then went on to join fight alongside the irish citizens army in 1916 in the easter rising which started the drive for irish independence from Britain.

My guess for the two arms in the Belgian coat of arms represents the two main regions of Belgium, Flanders and Wallonia. The arms are distinctly different in design, and with both regions be really different with Wallonia being French and Flanders being Dutch.
The republic of Venice had a cool design where the Lion on the flag would swich from holding a book to a sword if the republic was at war
8:56 it’s pronounced Feena Foll!!
The Finnish Air Force Flag is very controversial. It has a Swastika on a blue field on it. The swastika has been the symbol of the Finnish air force after gaining their independence in 1918, so a few years before nazi germany started using it (1935). Its so weird to think about Fighter planes with swastikas on them flying to this day... But i think last year they started getting rid of it.

I have actually heard of Finland's roundel dilemma! The Finish Air Force once used the swastika as it's roundel until 1945, when it was replaced by a white-blue-white roundel. However, the the Finnish Air Force still used it for a while, only phasing it out in 2020. For more information: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Roundel#F and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finnish_Air_Force#Insignia_of_the_Finnish_Air_Force_1918-1945
the two hands on the Belgian flag would be the Flemish and Walloons, the people of Flanders and Wallonia which make up Belgium
The Belgium flag's two hands and sword are likely to mean the unity of Flanders and Walloon

Fun fact - India's naval ensign uses the Cross of St. George, borrowed from the Royal Navy. Attempts were made to remove it, but issues regarding lack of visibility made the navy revert to using the cross again.
You should check out the standart of the austrian 'Gardebataillon' it is like on old regiment flag that is in use since before Napoleon
FYI Canada's Army has it's own flag as well. The banner of the Commander in Chief, is my personal favorite
the navy in the UK had three versions as shown with the union flag at the hoist with the cross of St George, for the navy, but a blue flag for government use, non-mitatary and a red flag for the merchant navy called the red duster
like the backround music much love from sweden

Great work. I have an idea for a video: flags which are different on both sides You could comment on which side is your favorite.
I think Malta also has and pretty cool army flag in my opinion.
10:11 The gold and red colours are probably modeled after the Byzantine colours.
The serbian flag reads "For freedom and honor of the homeland"

The national standard of Portugal is the representation of the army forces but the three branches have their only flag .
You should do one on "purposed USA state flags that were never used"
i love how albanias has been updated from swords to rifles XDD Brazils navy falls somewhere in the middle by having a canon
The writing on Serbian flag says - "For freedom and honor of the fatherland" , and fleur de lis stands for two autonomous regions of Vojvodina and Kosovo. And it was on the coat of arms of our first ruling dynasty back in the eleventh century, but in a different connotation.
10:48 About the remaining monarchy symbols in countries that are now republics: French navy is still nicknamed "La Royale" event though France was one of the first countries to depose its king and establish a republic. It is said that that army doesn't really like changes!
11:00 it stands for something like ''For freedom and honor of the homeland'' čast doesn't have a proper translation
All regiments in the British Army have their own standard.
Fianna Fáil is actually pronounced Fee-nah Fall
"Fun with Flags" The Spanish flag was originally its Navy´s Flag (Armada).
The Russian one says "Отечество" (Fatherland) on the top and "Долг Честь" (Duty Honor) on the bottom.

Lithuania's columns of Gediminids were first used by Gediminas (father of Kęstutis)
I'm really sad that we Germans don't have a dedicated military flag anymore. Since the one from the Kaiserreich was really distinct and cool looking. Personally I like this design from Weimar times: de.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reichskriegsflagge#/media/Datei%3AKriegsflagge_Entwurf2_1926.svg It's elements would fit todays Bundeswehr used as well.
The USA has many more flags like one for airforce and navy and even oddly the president flag/seal changes when there is time of war or peace.

Purple in flag of Ukraine represents cossacks who mostly used such color
@amalgama2000
2 жыл бұрын
I wonder why, because purple was always the color of high nobility. In antiquity it was exclusive color of an Roman Emperor and in Middle Age of great monarchs such as Bourbons. All because the purple dye was super rare. IFAIK, only one country - Castile used it for a short period of time in their naval flag.
