2:57 officialy this pink colour is called "raspberry colour". Ukraine put this colour on their military flag because it represents Zaporozhye kazaks, who were like half-military organisation who defended their lands from Tatars and then Poles. We can also find raspberry colour on a flag of Kuban or Krasnodar Krai in Russia. This is because Zaporozhye kazaks were forced to move to Caucasus by Katherine II.

  • @roman.ia.empire

Actually, that colour on the Ukrainian war flag is referred to as "malynovyi," meaning "raspberry," and it's considered distinct from purple or pink (but that probably has to do with different cultures perceiving colour differently). It's a common flag colour throughout central and eastern Ukraine, and especially in the Zaporizhzhian Oblast, where the colour is additionally featured on the Oblast flag.

My Grandfather served with the Portuguese Navy for almost 30 years and our family has a rich history of serving with the navy until my Father emigrated to Canada. I remember visiting my Grandparents when I was young and seeing a giant banner in the living room with the words Honrai a Pátria que a Pátria vos contempla (Honor the Fatherland for the Fatherland beholds you) Those flags and motto's that are eternal not only to the Country but the families that serve. @@royale7620 We have some folk running in uniforms around borrowing ammunition from other countries during exercises? Not the fault of the folk in the military, they do their best with what they're given. We used to have a serious amount of tanks. Gone, we sort of rent some from our German neighbours. We had a decent (for our size) airforce. I wonder how many planes we can still put in the air that are able to do anything beyond search and rescue. We always used to have a small but pretty decently outfitted navy. I believe we currently have sort of half a sub, and some hospital and supply ships. Maybe a frigate rotting at the dock sides. So.... in answer to your question: yeah, sorta, but nothing you'd actually take seriously unless you're Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino, or another one of those tiny countries. Mind you I would prefer not to need military by far but not having any when everyone else does, doesn't sound good either.

Hey Gil, The Serbian writing at the bottom means "For the freedom and honour of the Fatherland" (Za Slobodu i Cast Otacbine). A lot of cool flags, I think ours in BG is still relevant, have come across with it here and there. It's funny, but also sad how "С нами бог" is actually in Russian ("God is with us") or a very old version of Bulgarian/Slavic.

The irish volunteers were set up in response to the ulster volunteer force which was set up in order to resist home rule for ireland, through violence if necessary. The irish volunteers then went on to join fight alongside the irish citizens army in 1916 in the easter rising which started the drive for irish independence from Britain.

The Finnish Air Force Flag is very controversial. It has a Swastika on a blue field on it. The swastika has been the symbol of the Finnish air force after gaining their independence in 1918, so a few years before nazi germany started using it (1935). Its so weird to think about Fighter planes with swastikas on them flying to this day... But i think last year they started getting rid of it.

I have actually heard of Finland's roundel dilemma! The Finish Air Force once used the swastika as it's roundel until 1945, when it was replaced by a white-blue-white roundel. However, the the Finnish Air Force still used it for a while, only phasing it out in 2020. The Mongol script looks so beautiful and decorative-looking, I think they can get away with having it on a flag

Strange that you mention the Roman Empire when talking about our banners Because our religion back then was Verbatim the Roman religion, with Sun Gods, fire rituals etc. Oh, and owning large, multiethnic empires with a small minority of people

Eu acho que a bandeira do exército brasileiro é em homenagem a terceira divisão que atuou na guerra do paraguai.

The map he showed in the beginning was very confusing. He showed Libya, Sudan and Myanmar with their old flags and South Sudan doesn't exist but Serbia and Montenegro doesn't exist either because kosovo is independent and they declared independence in 2008

I wonder why, because purple was always the color of high nobility. In antiquity it was exclusive color of an Roman Emperor and in Middle Age of great monarchs such as Bourbons. All because the purple dye was super rare. IFAIK, only one country - Castile used it for a short period of time in their naval flag.
