There have been several occasions where the wrong anthem has been played, usually at sports events. When they play the GDR anthem, it isn't really that much of a problem (the last time this happened was in 2015 at the world luge championships). However, occasionally, people play the first verse of the Lied der Deutschen, or all three verses. Only the third verse is the actual anthem. Verse one is considered to be too nationalistic and verse two is just plain weird. Whenever that happens, most people get really annoyed. The last time that happened was in 2017 at a tennis event in the US.

For anyone wondering what the second verse is about, it starts with: „Deutsche Frauen, Deutsche Treue, Deutscher Wein und Deutscher Sang“ (German Women, German loyalty, German Wine and German Song).

There was a time when France invaded countries for less than that ...

As odd as this sounds, I think if you put bagpipes in the last Egyptian military band, it would definitely improve the sound by 100% because those flutes were too metallic sounding and harsh.
