    No, he wasn't Peter Parker 2.0 in his original All New Ultimate Comics Spider-Man run, heck he didn't even battle with webshooters until around his 16th issue. He only became somewhat of a Peter Parker 2.0 when they moved him into the 616 universe and changed his personality. Originally, he didn't want anything to do with being Spider-Man, he was 13 and got bit by an oscorp spider, when Ultimate Peter "died" he felt responsible for his death because Miles had his own powers at the time and felt he could have helped, but he didn't. He was practically dragged into being Spider-Man by his friend Ganke which gave him a Spider-Man Halloween costume, and told Miles that he should be the next Spider-Man.

    @@issy785 "see himself as a hero, as any hero or occupation as he grows up we can do anything" that is pretty much what peter parker spider-man has done over 50 years, thats what he has taugh to the audience for so long, he is relatable to everyone no matter the race or color, because of his stories and how human he is compared to the rest of heroes, thats what made spider-man so iconic, peter never relies on his skin color or race to be so beloved because he is good written and that was never a factor on why people should like spider-man. even parts of miles character are based on peter. if a character is good, charming and well written the skin color or race will be irrelevant PD: im also latino so this is not about "colonizers"

    It’s funny how when a black person says representation matters people are so quick to jump on it and say “okay but..” BUT NOTHING, more black people playing positive role models is needed. Hollywood constantly type cast black people to play stereotypical roles and not big heroic roles like miles. One reason why miles was created. Young black kids have to see they can step into any role they want to and be inspired. Start them when they are young and show you are much more than what this society plays black people to be.

    But you’re right, Miles isn’t written with his race being a personality trait. But Miles’s look and race does inspire some young children . You can’t expect children to immediately gravitate to “great character writing.” Me personally, Miles’s creation inspired me to get back into comics and I was super interested to see who this new ‘black’ Spider-Man was. Even if he were white or something else, his story is pretty cool. If he were white from the jump, it wouldn’t have appealed to me as quickly. Just facts.

  • @sergiovelasquez9976

    jo ma The fact that race is so meaning to people is the issue. We live in a society where everything is so judged by race and color, that we need to see past said barriers. Just like Dr King preached. And yeah, I’m sure it’s nice, but kids aren’t attached to just something that looks like them. I’m a Latino and growing up I wasn’t attracted to any of the shows that were about my culture or featured people from my culture. I was into power rangers, Batman, and Bruce Lee. My interests had absolutely nothing to do with anyone’s race. That’s simply how children view the world. Children who are attracted by race are taught to do so by their parents.

  • @ronnie3613

    @ronnie3613

    Sergio Velasquez Please don’t preach MLK Jr man. Obviously the world should be a nice place where race doesn’t matter. But that isn’t the case. Consider why Miles Morales is considered to be a big deal in the first place. POC feeling ostracized from the media since the days of the civil rights movement and very narrow representations of POC in media is what leads to people of today caring about race. If you don’t care, that’s cool man, I’m not saying you should. But please don’t tell people they shouldn’t care about race or representation when the country made it this way in the first place. If things like this are more common, representation and race identity won’t be an issue in a few generations.

Now today, it inspired me to create my own black characters, and I hope people will like them as much as they like Miles.

    Miles Morales is an incredible Spiderman. I would not say he's the best, because Peter Parker is an incredible Spiderman as well, but rather I would say that they are both equally great Spidermen. They are different Spidermen, but neither is greater than the other. And I love them both equally. I didn't know much about Miles going into watching Into the Spiderverse. All I knew was the hype surrounding him and man did he deliver. He's a great character and I like that he isn't a Peter Parker 2.0. There already is a Peter Parker; we don't need another one because if you compare the two, you would always find the second lacking as these things typically go. He's his own unique character and, because of that, can be incredible in his own right. I'm half Hispanic myself and my mom and I have an occasionally difficult relationship that mirrors the troubled but clearly loving relationship Miles has with his father. This made Miles relatable to me on a level that Peter Parker wasn't. Don't get me wrong, they are both relatable, but they are so in very different ways and I really, really love that about them. I relate to Peter's struggle to fit in, the fact that he's a nerd and a geek who gets flack for his interests, his awkwardness, and his desire to just go out and help people in any way he can: both the big and the small. I relate to Miles's roots, his difficult but loving relationship with one of his parents, the battle between choosing his own path vs living to fulfill his family's expectations, and his discomfort with putting on a mask of someone you're not to rub elbows and try to fit into a culture that doesn't quite mesh with your own and feeling out of place because of it. They're both so different and yet so similar in all the right ways that I can't help but love both of them equally. Into the Spiderverse was such an amazing movie and I was totally blown away by it. I can't wait to see what Sony plans to do with this new series.

    I’m on both sides of the fence. I grew up with Peter Parker as THE Spider-Man. So I hate when companies do things like this for diversity sake. Instead of taking established characters, and making them a minority, create new characters. But on the other hand, being a Puerto Rican male, I love Miles. He reminds me of my little cousin who are Afro Latino, and I love showing them who he is. I also connected with Miles in the movie with the whole Graff writer thing. When I was a kid, I always thought having Spider-Man’s powers would make me the greatest “writer” cause I would be able to hit spots no one else could because of my powers. Anyway. I love Miles. I love Peter. I love Spider-Man. Always be my favorite hero. Go see the movie. It was great. Stan’s cameo made me smile.

    I'm a 30 year old jersey girl with full blown Dominican parents. Superhero movies can be fun but I'm not like a huge fan or anything. I prefer psych thrillers and epic romances. But when I saw this movie (somewhat against my will) I was BLOWN AWAY by quality and felt immediately connected to miles, like I'd known him all my life. I feel like my world and my people just got injected directly into a normally pop culture mainstream environment and it felt amazing to be represented. I didn't even know I wanted that. miles isn't even Dominican and I've never lived in NY, but I still saw myself and my loved ones, my community, up on the big screen, right alongside the iconic visuals of Spider-Man. I'm Thankful for this film.

He's vibrant, silly, funny, smart but also quite awkward. Truly one of the things I love most about him is that he's just so real and relatable, in both the comics and in the movie. The movie no surprise was definitely gonna big a huge success but NEVER did I think it'd be that big. I'm so happy and love Miles. I kinda can't wait for Miles to get his own, good, hero name, other than Spider-man. to move out of any other characters branding and become a full fledged hero of his own making. I kinda feel like he's on that path now, and I want his time as Spider-man to still matter, and be a big part of him, but I really want to see him grow more.maybe start a trend in mainstream comics of letting characters age and time pass. actually allow for legacy and stuff. because soon characters like Magneto, who are supposed to be from the 30's, won't make much sense when it's like, 2099. it'd be cool if he set off the wave and movement of allowing time to pass, and character to have true endings, as well as true long term legacies afterwards.

Me and people like me had to fight tooth and nail against the people who were against the "wave of diversity" in Marvel for Miles to stick around, so it's just gonna make it so much better when I can show my kids, nephews/nieces that we can exist in superhero stories and be great.

    Nova is the best Teen hero, but I think he’s sadly been discontinued. As you were saying about representation, as someone who’s been reading the comics since early 2015, I can relate to him. And the storyline of Nova is just really quite marvel-lous.

    A lot of people don’t like Miles not because he’s black, but because he’s not Peter. Imagine if Disney replaces Mickey with a cat. It’s not the same. Imagine replacing Spongebob with someone else. It changes everything. If you replace Spider-Man,it’s not Spider-Man. Black, white, whatever,it’s still not the same

    I don't think the point of this was to make them the same in first place. I don't think that was ever the intention at all. Legacy characters are like a cop out for creators to do a reimagining of an already established mantel. The point is to be different. Maybe people just don't like "different".

Its not really till the release of the 2018 PS4 spider man game did they introduce miles the right way and now the new animated movie will launch Miles into the spotlight.

    Spider-Man is my favorite superhero. Tom Holland is pretty cool but I also like Miles, I'm latino and it was really cool seeing a superhero speaking spanish. They made him relatable and with a cool personality. Hope to see more of Miles Morales on the big screen. Also, the music had to be the best soundtrack in a superhero movie.
