it was like prehistoric, primordial and from WAY in future at the same time. had just "learned" that Miles had an electric period and picked up "In A Silent Way". Loved it. then i picked up "Bitches Brew". life changing. i went back the "record shop" a few days later and asked the guy who sold it to me to recommend something else like it. he could not. i still smile thinking about how f'n stupid that question was and how nice he was about it.

You couldn't have said it any better. I saw Miles live outdoors in this period on a balmy evening. My friend cried; I was totally mesmerized. Getting goosebumps thinking about that concert.

I've had this in my car for so long. I play guitar in rock bands, and sometimes when I share this album with my band mates I find it hard to explain - it's not the notes, it is not the instrumentation, it is the life that is in this music that makes it magical; if I could distil 1% of this performance into my music, I would fell very happy. I've got to about 0.25% so far.....wish me luck.

Its talent + artistic ability to fill space + personaility (personal experience and maturity about it). If abstract music is going to be good, it needs all three, and 2 people's should never be the same, thats just copying and boring.

Is that Chick Corea at around 10 minutes? He is fully immersed in playing that keyboard. He has realised the potential of his instrument and is trying all possibilities. Legend! Witness the birth of jazz fusion right here!
