Miles chewing gum and just walking around like a guy in a hardware store shopping for bits and pieces while Scofield’s setting the stage on fire with a hot drummer! Amazing really.

There is no higher musical honor than playing in Miles' band and Scofield earns it ... five stars!
His harmonic and rhythmic vocabulary is out of this world.
Man, Daryl Jones is locked in here!!! I love how Scofield starts out playing straight pentatonic and then goes WAY out there along the way. Amazing footage.

Okay, I reckon you listed mostly flashy,, often speed oriented Fusion guys or others on the Rock/Flamenco side of Fusion (Poland And Dimeola). The sole Jazz name you listed is Benson, but we all know he is also a chops, speed demon in his own right... So I see technique and speed as main attractors in your tastes...I reckon Speed and chops and virtuoso technique as the aforementioned players are not really features of Sco's style. I also reckon you like mostly diatonic players, meaning 'out' is not really our thing?... (McLaughlin might be the exception in that department, especially his older, 1970s bag)...So In relation to your tastes I can see why you think his paying here is 'boring'....By any chance have you ever listened to 'Still Warm' or Pick Hits Live'?
the most amazing concert I ever went to was Miles with John Scofield and Mike Stern, London 1983. I was buzzing for days afterwards.

absolutely sick. the tone, the scofield little stutters, big bends, dissonant 16th note runs, everything is there love it

What a great solo! I’ve seen him many times and he’s never failed to impress. What I love about this is how he moves so much but for almost the whole time his feet don’t move. He’s rooted to the spot, like a tree in a hurricane. Complete and utter absorption in what he’s doing. Phenomenal!

'He’s rooted to the spot, like a tree in a hurricane' - Great way of putting it!!
Big Wow! Miles knew how to bring major artists together.
Was there 8th row back ,he came on after midnight and we walked out St. Denis theater around 3am Montreal and the party was still going ,what a night!
I don't know how many times I've watched this vid!! It's absolutely awesome. I've seen Scofield a number of times and got to meet him at a tiny little outdoor amphitheater in a park in Reno one evening, maybe 75 people there! Many of the people didn't know WHO HE WAS!! It was part of some package of events for this Park. I couldn't believe my luck!!
That is sick! Incredible outside playing from Mr Scofield.
Bob Berg’s sax solo on this was amazing too.

It never gets old and it always surprises - what a great solo - full of fluctuations in mood from all the harmonic exploration. And that constant, controlled explosion of energy - wow.
Yeah his sound is so outside .we were saying the other day how half the notes in the super locrian are in ,and the other half are out ,John has a great balance so soulful and technical at the same time
Scofield is a magical guitar player. I'm certain he isn't "thinking" like a typical guitar player when he plays. He has transcended that a long time ago. He is a musical great on the same level as the biggest and most sacred names in jazz. Miles, Coltrane, Monk, Parker, Gillespie, to name a few. Jazz has other great guitarist. Benson, Pass, and many others. But Scofield is something different from them. He isn't just a great jazz guitar player. Scofield is one of the great jazz musicians.

Sick!!!! Love when he steps outside and goes into that chromatic stuff!
That bass... man
frickin amazing
Simply awesome guitar playing ...difficult to say anything to justly measure and qualify the level of musicianship here...
Outright all awesome musicians.
I always thought he had, and still has, an "oblique playing"... also because he phisically is this way when he plays: oblique, his body follows the music and vice-versa, simple! 😁 By the way: what a stellar band this was... holy cow...
this moment in space and time is one to be remembered, prayers to they who recorded it.
Magnificent !
Just awesome...
Got to love Miles at this time!
Solo fantástico !
This progression he's soling over could be reduced to a Bluesy II/V vamp -despite playing a lot of other things over it - 'two fiving w/ chromaticism to temporary tonicizations of various notes', etc, in essence he playing Blues. Someone wrote that no matter what Sco plays, it always sounds like he's playing The Blues, which is true to a great extent. Some old Jazz Educator once said: "Well...what's Jazz, besides II/Vs and Blues?" We know it's more than that, but that's its essence. Sco rules
Miles was lovin' it
NO ONE TURNS OUT A SOLO LIKE SCO!...YOUR BODY MOVES UP DOWN SIDEWAYS AND BACKWARDS IN A CONSTANT GROOVE!....don't U LOVE HOW MILES ACTS LIKE NTHINS GOING ON?..LOL

John's solo is fire. Reminds me playing with Drew Davidson when I was 9 playing drums with him. So electric john.

It's called a shekere, and everybody who watched percussionists of this period know what it does. While this instrument lacks the infinite capabilities of the plumbus, it makes a shimmery, scratchy sound unlike the ratchet-like guiro. Morty bought one on Ebay, but the seller has yet to deliver it.
