Émile Friant, Naturalist Painter of Everyday Life
Émile Friant, was an exceptional talent from the start, at the tender age of nine he demonstrated future Salon promise of great painting. He was able to secure financial aid because of his work throughout his life and patronage from wealthy clientele with portraiture and his theme pictures. American collectors were among his admirers. The Naturalism that took the world by storm at mid-century continued with Friant's skill and curiosity of daily life. A fine draughtsman and a well-respected teacher.

Thanks so much for presenting this artist.
Super presentation and very informative. Thank you
Émile Friant has always been one of my greatest influences since before I began my career, his masterful handling of color and composition place him in my opinion among the greats of the 19th century. I absolutely love his work thank you for your wonderful presentation.
Thank you for this wonderful presentation!
Another artist I've never heard of before. Thank you !
Love these vignettes, entire series. Thanks so much.
I learned about Friant through a film. His work "La Douleur" was in a movie, and I found the work moving.
Another brief but terrific introduction to yet another painter whose work embellishes the naturalness of the human physique (?), ie, the physicality of movement, of gestures, of mood, of character. Comical ending film with the women dancing. I think Emile Friant would appreciate their light heartedness and could certainly have painted a remarkable painting of all of them...
