Interview, 'Dobar komsija', September 2015 Host: Our first guest is definitely one of the most popular young singers. Every Friday we can watch him in most popular TV show 'Pinkove zvezdice'. From Belgrade, today came Milan Stankovic. Welcome. Milan: Thank you. Hello, everyone. Host: It's not very long way from Belgrade to Sarajevo. Thank you for coming. I know you are very busy. We were talking about this for a while and you finally managed to find some time for us. Milan: Yes, we finally met. And it's very nice here. Host: On the beginning, I would like to talk about the songs which announced your album 'Masina'. Those are huge hits with a lot of million views on KZread. So how was their creation? Milan: It lasted. I wrote that on the album. But album's name is not 'Masina'. We decided to name it 'Milan', because this is the first time people get to know me. Actually, I can't say first time, it's the second time but now they met the real me. So that was symbolic. Old Milan was hiding all these years behind all prejudices and headlines in newspapers. Now, I think everything is on its place. In the meantime, I put on weight because of those little problems, I worked a lot, got tired but I owe that all those people who were with me all these years. I had a huge responsibility and I think everyone is satisfied now with these results. Host: Was it difficult to your collaborators? Milan: The worst haha. Host: I heard you don't tolerate superficiality and you don't like mediocrity. Milan: I'm perfectionist, but more stickler, nagger... I'm paying attention to details, fixing them. But I think that's the only way to succeed. Although it's harder, that's my choice. Host: You knew what you wanted from the beginning. When you applied to one big music competition, it seemed that 19-year-old guy had a plan about his career. I assume you had problems then, because people couldn't recognize that. But your plan could be seen in your style, attitude and interviews. Milan: Day before that audition, I dyed my hair and went there. I had two stylings and I thought that's how new, different singer in this area should look like. Everything was childlish and naive back then. But, in the meantime I became more mature, like I was in incubator. Because this job is a real machine and everything happens fast. So I changed a lot. Now I'm dedicated to music and composing. Host: We'll talk about that too, but first can we hear 'Nesto protiv ljubavi' and then continue our conversation? Milan: Yes, of course. ----------------------------- Host: Milan, from the beginning and 'Zvezde Granda', everything was very turbulent for you. You even went to Eurovision, sang Goran Bregovic's song. I assume it was a big thing for you in that moment, being on European stage and getting international fans. Milan: Yes, it was. And those fans are still here. I have fan clubs in Germany, Poland (Milanki), even in Japan. I put some of them in the video for 'Faktor rizika'. So, Eurovision was a big step for me. Few days ago I saw one my interview has more than million views. It was a huge interest that year. I can't believe people wanted to know what I had to say as a little blond kid. Host: That was very significant for your affirmation, I suppose. Milan: Yes, very much. And that collaboration with Goran Bregovic, most successful composer from here, was very important for me. Generally, he's the one who advised me to compose and said I need to have work time, like people who work in a bank, for example, from 8 to 4. And I listened to him, my first composition is 'Perje', now on this album I did 'Nesto protiv ljubavi' and 'Faktor rizika'. I also did one song for Radmila. Its name is 'Istina ziva'. So I really plan to dedicate myself to composing because I feel the best in the music studio. Host: Well, I'm glad you chose composing to be your profession. I mentioned that turbulence because you went to the other extreme too. Conflict with people from your record label, and even media isolation and complete absence...That was your decision. Milan: I didn't want to be a part of those negativities and make media circus. Only jounalists would have benefits from that. I had a long ban in every sense so it's a real miracle I'm here now. I'm very thankful to my public because they managed to love me again, to understand me and give me second chance. Host: Now everything is finally right. Are you dissatisfied with that image of you in the media? Milan: I was for a long time. But people managed to know me better in 'Pinkove zvezdice'. Instead of those prejudices and all headlines, they can hear what I have to say. Host: Did you ever think that journalists were revolted by your silence and media isolation? Milan: That's very possible. I can't be psychologist and play with them. I'm here to do my job and others to comment. So I think they do all that with some good or bad intentions. It's ruthless time nowadays, it's very hard to build a serious career. But that's the situation in every profession not just in music. ................................
