MikroTik L2TP/IPsec VPN Configuration (Connecting Remote Client)

MikroTik L2TP/IPsec VPN is able to create a secure and encrypted L2TP Tunnel between a remote client and L2TP Server across public network. So, a remote L2TP client can communicate to L2TP Server's local network as if it was directly connected to the local network. L2TP/IPsec setup guide is available in this video.

I followed this and a few other sources, and I have a working VPN connection. Problem is i cannot resolve names over the VPN. I cannot connect to networked drives or computer shares. I do not have a domain controller or a server (outside the mikrotik). Any suggestions?

At L2TP configuration, Use IPSEC checkbox is marked. That means, MikroTik L2TP communication will be over IPSEC.

thats the minimum requirement for most remote access services, if you dont want to pay for an active server bridging the conections. With IPV6 its a lot easier to have a public ip. If your public ip is not fixed, you can always use a ddns service to keep up to date
