Wow, what an effective use of virtuosity. It's in perfect service to music! He's even better than in his younger years.

You have to say this is always a welcome piece of schmaltz. But so few pianists have the requisite charm and technic and wtists to play it ! Pletnev like Horowitz fascinsted eith jewelled colors and musicality!!!

Yeah he sort of ‘punches’ the note at the beginning of the phrase and then phrases off which is a very typical Russian approach to expressing a melody. Really wonderful

Выдающийся музыкант мирового уровня и блистательное виртуозное исполнение. При чём здесь лучшая русская школа? Чем она отличается от не лучшей и не русской? Может, вы можете отличить по слуху русскую школу от французской, итальянской или американской?

​@@toparbitr0923частично с Вами и согласен и не согласен. Школа в основном ставит постановку рук. Но тут при этом обобщать не надо ,у него школа Тимакина ,а не конкретно " русская" ,в России многим ставят и прямые пальцы или другую постановку рук . Плетнева научили многому,но то ,как он мыслит и выдает с помощью разного звукоизвлечения эти мысли - это собственно симбиоз его гения и школы ) многим и руки хорошие ставят ,и учат мыслить академично ,но они так и близко не играют ,как Михаил Васильевич

it’s incredible how this piece seems easy to his eyes even if 99.9% of pianists can’t play this decently and with zero chance to not push wrong notes 🤣 I’m impressed by pletnev since his tchaikovsky competition in moscow with liszt rhapsody: tons of wrong notes but an outstanding repertoire of musical ideas. one of his best recordings is islamey at carnegie hall

exactly. He does so well at var 1 where I would probably once or twice on my right hand notes especially with the section where it changes to B flat major, goddamn I can't get any parts right XDD

he's great, but you still have Rachmaninoff, Richter, Gilels, Horowitz, Rubinstein..... I would pick as the greatest anyone of those before Pletnev.

For me it's Richter, Arrau, Horowitz, Sokolov, Cziffra, maybe even Kissin. I haven't listened to enough Argerich, but I know she's up there. But these lists of GOATS are always ambiguous; it's great that people can share their thoughts.

Wonderful...one has to make these type of pieces appear effortless and he achieves this. The cuts he made worked perfectly although the usual intro.works well.Also good to see some smiles on people's faces...!😊😊 Not sure what the preceding concerto was...

Не ожидал я такого от признанного пианиста-интеллектуала,пианиста-мыслителя. Но,видимо,ничто человеческое Плетнёву не чуждо и виртуозные игрушки тоже. I did not expect this from a recognized pianist-intellectual, pianist-thinker. But, apparently, nothing human is alien to Pletnev and virtuoso toys too.

Definitly he is one of top 3 pianist in our time

I like this even better that Jorge Bolet's recorded version -- Pletnev's approach is a bit lighter.

This transcription is actually a paraphrase. It has some nice moments, moderately inventive and with quite some flair, but most transition passages are sub-par. Playing is superlative, as always.

Lhevinne and Cherkassky would smile . His sound is marvelousness !!!! Listen tohow the (line)melody is always there no matter what fioritura passages and the harmony is always clear . Why didn't Horowitz ever give us this .earl Wild !Bolet and Hough maybe
