The title track from Mike + the Mechanics third studio album, Word Of Mouth reached no.13 in the UK chart and was the band's 10th single. The song features former Sad Cafe singer Paul Young on lead vocals and was produced by Mike Rutherford and Christopher Neil. The video was directed by Paul Boyd.

Its 2023 and i only realized what lyrics said today!! This song was warning us in 1991 already! This misinformation from mainstream media has always been going on. Absolutely crazy! This is the song playing from my speaker in the streets when the people decide to start the revolution!!

@@BardeauxWolf Biden promised to be a true moderate, "back to normal". Instead, we just get an even bigger government and lose more of our liberties. I can't even spend my "stimulus" checks because I'm expecting a big tax increase. Capital gains doesn't just affect the wealthy! This song is even more relevant now.

@@arnbjarnarson Actually just saying Paul can be confusing as even in Mike and the Mechanics we had two singers named "Paul" (Paul Carrack and Paul Young). Though even more confusing could be that there are at least 3 well known musical artists named Paul Young. First there's the Paul (Antony) Young, known for songs like "Come back and Stay", "No Parlez", "Love of the Common People" and many more. Then there's John Paul Young known for "Love Is in the Air". Finally there's the Paul Young, that is relevant here, who was part of MATM and passed away in July 2000
Paul Young never ceased to amaze me. He was an incredible talent. RIP Youngy.

I’ve always loved this song and it speaks volumes about the shit going on in the world nowadays.
What a brilliant singing voice that the late, great Paul Young had. In fact, I believe that he had a five octave vocal range and that fact doesn't surprise me at all, as he had one of the most powerful rock voices of his generation. How I wish that I could sing exactly like him. Some hopes of that. He was a brilliant, yet (bizarrely) hugely underrated singer throughout his illustrious career, who was taken way before his time. R.I.P The Unforgettable Paul Young.

@@lancemckellar Yes. On 15/7/00, he suddenly collapsed at his home in Altrincham, Cheshire from a massive heart attack and tragically died on the way to hospital. He was just 53 years old. Rest In Peace. Please note: He is NOT to be confused with the 80s UK solo pop singer of the same name, who had huge hits with 'Wherever I Lay My Hat' and 'Love Of The Common People'. THAT Paul Young is still alive and well.
I'm 27 and I love M& the M. Love the deep meanings behind their songs.
Grew up in a family of knowledge and hatred, my mother would play this randomly and now i understand, it brings tears to my eyes.
Still listening in 2019, and still one of my favourites to this day. Don't understand how people can give this a thumbs down. Finally, RIP to the legend Paul Young x

I am a massive Paul young fan , I was lucky enough to shake his hand at the end of a Mike and the mechanics concert at the. symphony Hall Birmingham then before I knew it he was gone . What a talent .. sadly missed 😪

This was the first CD I bought for the CD player my parents gifted me back in the day. I remember picking out this CD after having heard this song in the radio. I remember where I bought it, the surroundings, the weather...crazy how things like that stick with you although almost 30 years ago.

Sometimes Music Speaks To The Deepest Part Of The Human Soul. 🙌
I keep forgetting how much this song is an absolute belter!
Whichever Paul stepped up to Front you always got a great performance. He took centre, with that true Frontman presence, powerful vocal, emotion delivery, verse, chorus, second verse, chorus. As good as anyone out there. Mike himself would stand off to the side, playing the guitar part. However, when the break dropped, Mike came out with another world class solo to remind us all, this is Mike AND The Mechanics, this is HIS band. Mike Rutherford, World Class Guitarist.
The brilliance of this supergroup has often left me speechless. Mike choosing two different vocalists with different voices and strengths to share that aspect a true stroke of genius. I think Mike understood for the group to be successful he needed a Phil Collins type of personification. I think Paul Carrack filled that bill. But the voicing and strength of Paul Young was great too. Sadly PY is no longer among the living.

An everlasting classic.
I remember hearing my dad play mike n the mechanics when i was little, this one in particular, obviously never understood the meaning back then, it randomly popped into my head, it smacked me straight in the face today, a great song and band

With the vocal harmonies these guys should be as big as The Eagles, even with the current lineup.

Absolutely brilliant get up and go song,no matter if you in good place or a bad place makes you you sing along,how so true are the lyrics
