    You constantly instruct us to "spin clockwise" or "spin counter clockwide" when ending a stroke. The funny part is most of today's youth can't read a clock with a face - only digital clocks!!

    davidographicsguy Unfortunately no photos of him actually working,as back then it was just a normal everyday job. He did used to say that when he retired in the early 1980s he was lucky because modern graphics & vinyl was starting to become more popular over traditional sign writing

    Looks like on the basic stroke, after you make contact with the baseline, you continue to turn counter-clockwise until the chisel edge is 90°, perpendicular to the baseline, then go back clockwise. Is that how you know approximately when to switch back for the tail?

    Hey David, thank you for the tutorial. Im very new to hand lettering, and I cannot find out how to keep my brush chiseled and flat like yours while lettering. After 2 or so strokes it gets really rounded and the tip isn't flat anymore so it's impossible to do the thin bits of the letters. I'm using a von dago #4 liner, which was highly recommended, so I don't think it's the brushes fault. I just have no idea how to keep it so flat without it rounding out. I've been using by fingers (gloved because the 1 shot is nasty) to flatten it by hand every few strokes, but that doesn't seem right. Do you have any tips? Thanks.

  • @davidographicsguy

    @davidographicsguy

    Hey Joe, It’s so awesome that you’re lettering. The liners are mostly used making long lines and sometimes outlining, that’s why they keep a round shape. Try these lettering brushes, you will love them. Keep up the the great work! stevekafka.com/products/kwill
