Schmidt is the first player my Dad introduced me to at my first ballgame at Veterans Stadium in 1987. I was 5 years old and it will always stick with me.

#20 Mike Schimdt was indeed an iconic player from my childhood. He was in great shape and he looked incredibly manly . Kind of like the man many of us aspired to immulate in our own lives. His performance on the field never disappointed because he was always the embodiment of excellence. He consistently ranked at the very top of his class. I believe he was the best of his era.

I bought a Phillies hat last summer in Philadelphia just because of Mike Schmidt. He was a superstar, of course, but a very athletic and gifted player. Not just a slugger, but a great bounce and swagger to him.

@@esportshighlights2457Schmidt hit 50 homeruns in 138 career games at Wrigley. From 1976 to 1982 Schmidt hit 32 HRs, 72 RBIs batted .372 in 56 games at Wrigley. If Schmidt could've played 77 home games per year at Wrigkey and continued to hit at that pace between 1976 and 1982 Schmidt would've averaged a WHOPPING 44 HRs per season JUST at Wrigley, that does not count any road HRs.

Greg "the bull" Luzinski and Michael Jack Schmidt. Now that was a fearsome 3-4 punch. I think it was usually Schmidt #3 though, due to The Bull's...less than blazing speed. Also, RIP, Harry Kalas.

Bull or Schmidt in their prime-Who hits more bombs in Citizens bank Park? I still say Schmidt, but the Bull would probably benefit the most. Schmidt's hrs were usually line drives that kept climbing. The Bull seemed to hit a lot of fly balls that he missed , but still pinned an outfielder against the fence. At Citizen's Bank those are hrs.

@@frankburns8871 Bowa..🤣I was about to use Sixto Lezcano as a comeback, but he actually hit 28 hrs in 1978...lol.. Anyway, Unlike now with swinging for launch angle ect, even power hitters like Schmidt and the Bull hit down on the ball resulting in a lot of scorched line drives. Schmidt's swing was flatter than Luzinski who swung on a steeper angle and finished higher. That and his "Bullcock" strength produced those moon shots and long fly outs that would be hrs now. Bill Robinson told me that Luzinski was the strongest guy he ever played with or against.

Greatest third baseman definitely, but he did so much more than just hit home runs. Would have been nice if this video that claims to be "career highlights" could have shown even a few of his amazing defensive plays at 3rd or all the times he drove in game-winning runs in the clutch, and all the other great things he did besides hit it into the seats.

Yes! Schmitty grabbing a high bouncer off of the astroturf with his bare hand and gunning out a runner is stuff of legends. Of course it would have been nice had he fielded Lopes' grounder cleanly in the 9th inning of game 3 of the 1977 NLCS. Yeah, I know Bowa technically got him anyway and Froemming blew the call but if Schmidt fields that cleanly we never hear of Black Friday.
