And he know so much! I got an education watching this man talk about his love of these albums.

Love his enthusiam for the music he loves. Always thought The Alarm were under appreciated in this country.

Another vote for 'Quadrophenia': Peters is absolutely right --> it's more than just a record. I listen to it every year on my birthday or when I simply need an emotional lift.

I photographed this legend on the promenade in Aberystwyth in the late 80's when "New South Wales was a hit". He came out of his hotel to meet me with zero airs and graces and was an absolute gentleman who worked with me to get a great photo for the local newspaper. I will never forget how humble and agreeable he was. A true Welshman with strength and kindness at the top of his fame.

The world would be a better place if everyone was like Mike. So many testimonies to how nice he is. If I had had his troubles with health I would probably be bitter but there is not a trace of it with him. An inspiration. The Alarm ( mark 1 for me) is superb. Watched Absolute Reality on the big screen last night and it sounds amazing every time. Like being back in 1985 all over again.

@@martingp Thanks Martin. It is so long ago now but I still wish The Alarm mark 1 had continued because they were so good and given that I have never taken to the 'new' music. Ditto Coloursound although I did think Mike's first solo album was great. I saw him solo live a few times and the gigs were memorable. Not sure if you are a fan of the music but it's great he made a lasting impression. Me and my wife saw James Dean Bradfield at a talk in Hay a number of years ago and he was also very humble and so nice to a fan outside who spoke to him. Must be something in the water in the fair country of Wales! Have a good day!

@@eightiesmusic1984 Great to hear of your encounters and memories. I'm not a huge fan to be honest but definitely appreciate their music. I heard Mike and his wife in an interview on radio 4 about seven years ago and I was amazed to hear about his health struggles and how much he had done to support cancer sufferers. His Mount Everest concert was genius. I understand he's in remission and I wish him and all cancer patients, the very best for their future. It's a horrible disease that I'm sure will eventually be beaten.

Mike is truly a nice guy. The new Alarm album is just as good as their classic stuff. Coloursound is dang good, too! Of course, I've been a fan since the beginning, so... I obviously like his work.

They really are one the greats. I wish they got a little bit more recognition over here in the states, they deserve it.

Great choices! And his enthusiasm reminds me of when I was a teenager in the 80's and discovering new bands and buying their albums and cassettes. What a golden age for me. Wish I could go back. But I can't.

Nice one! I met the Alarm back in the mid-eighties. They were really nice guys and were genuinely interested in their fans. They have great chemistry live and Mike really gives you everything when he’s singing.

Agreed. Should have made it instead of U2. They were tipped to do so but U2 made it big and The Alarm were also underachievers in commercial terms although their music is much better in my view.

Quadrophenia is The Who's meisterwerk.

You don't get stories like this with MP3s or streaming

Amazing desert island discs collection I couldn't really argue with... ok, wait, maybe I'd swap the JS and The Clash albums for just London Calling, but why quibble

And that 7" clash record is worth more than the first edition of that LP . You`re looking at about 200 quids worth of single....

I had the copy with the red sticker when it was first released, I didn't send it off for the single though. Ouch.

"...the late, great John Lennon of The Beatles fame" - as-opposed to the 'other' John Lennon? 🤷‍♂ I saw The Alarm live at the Birmingham Odeon in 1984/5 on the Strength tour. Great performance.

Wow, the Alarm, 30 years since I thought about them or their hit....whatever it was, with Thingy and Whassisname....Im kidding, I never knew their names... I must say this is aremarkable choice, he has a real talent for finding the worst albums from great artists. Quite a talent, unfortunatlely his only one. Still, cloth ears does explain his career.😂😂😂
