From Season 2, Episode 6 "Bali Ha'i"
Breaking Bad follows protagonist Walter White (Bryan Cranston), a chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife (Anna Gunn) and teenage son (RJ Mitte) who has cerebral palsy. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to secure his family's financial security, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in the world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White's releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

    I just noticed another moment in Better Call Saul that can be compared to a Breaking Bad episode. In BCS S04E04 Nacho's dad calls 911 and Nacho convinces him to hang up. In BB, Jane's dad calls 911 to report her drug use. She convinces him to hang up. Both characters end up the same sadly and both fathers are left grief stricken.

Waves of Chinese pouring over the mountain. his platoon (or whatever it was) ran out of ammunition, it was down to hand to hand combat. His words were they were stacking their buddies dead bodies like logs. He didn't know how he survived when so many others didn't. he went on to live a long happy life but you could tell that he was nobody to f with. even when he was old. whenever I see this actor I think of him, looks, demeanor, everything. I've always liked the fan theory that Mike has an extensive background in the armed forces. Ideas range from a sniper in Vietnam to, "wetter" and more specialized ops in Latin America. You can definitely see a lot of it in his cognitive orientation, constant OODA loop.

    It's implied Mike was a Marine scout sniper in Vietnam, especially given his knowledge of the M40 (he says he has experience with the gun after Lawson remarks "the same rifle used by Marine snipers since 1966", and then cites primary problems with the original design, stating "Somebody probably should have figured that out before they sent it into a damn jungle"); he was definitely a former police officer.

    It was scenes such as the washing of the blood of his hands with the white tissue role, which we have all done due to minor cuts when trying to fix something, that all other TV series and films never include. His obvious exasperation and not anger, fear or murderous intent at being sent these two guys - that made Breaking Bad especially with scenes of Mike showing how good he was at violence - such a marvellous TV series that sadly we have and I don't think we will ever see again.

  • @kevinmach730

    @kevinmach730

    Yeah, i think that was done intentionally, to keep you guessing when something is about to happen - and here it doesn't- so the show keeps you on your toes. You weren't the only one to notice the window in the shot, and most assumed that they must have shown him cleaning his gun here because it was about to lead to something more. No way that was an accident.

    You'd think so, but really even the cartel understands game theory. Mike had every right to kill those two guys but he deliberately spared them out of respect for unwritten rules in, "The Game." If he showed them that much mercy and they turned around and executed him like that, they'd risk tainting their, "honor" as organized criminals. Mike understands this well enough that he knows they understand what's at stake. Not to mention killing a former cop would bring the Salamancas the kind of heat they don't want, which also dictated a lot of their strategy here.

    Some other things I noticed...first Mike opens the closet door, then closes it, then moves towards the...'pantry'? The two guys are hiding in the room behind the door to the left of the closet. They would have heard him opening and closing the door, then moving to the right, away from the closet. So at the very least, they would have known he was in the house before Mike turned on the TV. Also, as Mike moves towards the pantry door frame, you can clearly see his reflection in the window. Anyone hiding in the pantry would have seen his reflection before he entered the room. But Mike moves past the door to his left, barely glancing at it, enters the pantry incautiously, looks to his right. He could have been shot by someone hiding to the left of the pantry doorway. Then he turns on the TV...but doesn't turn on the room light? Who comes home and turns on the TV before turning on the room light? You need the room light to find the remote. The two guys would have seen the room light shining/not shining at the bottom of the door they were hiding behind.

    The generation of sets made from roughly 1978 to 2000 did this. Analog sets could get the signal instantly, but vacuum tubes took time to heat the filaments of the tubes. This was even true of solid-state sets because when all else is solid state, a CRT is also a vacuum tube with a heater. But in the mid (high-end) to late (low-end) 1970's manufacturers started leaving the filaments energized all the time, so the set could come on instantly. This would do exactly what is seen in the scene; the set would energize, acquire the signal within a frame or two, and be ready to watch in a fraction of a second.

    Mike isn't personally attached to his equipment. Remember, he bought his sniper rifle from a discreet, private dealer, at a meeting in a remote location, & likely his handguns too, probably to ensure they're untraceable to him. @@atomicsmith He was a detective before he started working for Gus and this was his personal home that was broken into. I think it's fair to assume that is his personal firearm and not some throw away piece. Mike is to cautious to bring a firearm that would be used for a crime into his own home or even near it. If he had used an untraceable glock and was forced to kill those men even if it was self defense there would be questions about why he had a firearm that wasn't traceable. Mike has thrived in this world because of how cautious he is and Gus wouldn't have brought him into his team if he was reckless. The writing in the show is good enough that the writers shouldn't have to explain it to you. You should rewatch the show, because Mike is one of the best characters in both shows and is worth paying more attention to.

    I see two things I'd really like to understand here. 1 - there is a door chain on the door frame but no track for it on the door. Why? 2 - Mike took a handfull of paper towels and wet them to clean his hands of blood, why didn't he just wash his hands?

  • @Deathwatch05

    @Deathwatch05

    To answer 1 - the door was probably replaced at some point and they didn't replace it with one with a chain attachment point and didn't bother to remove the chain either.

    Maybe if you watched properly you wouldn't need to ask dumb questions. He first used the paper towel to wipe the the blood from the gun. Then he used it like you would use a flannel, to wipe the blood from his hand. Why is that so difficult to understand? And who says that's a door chain, it didn't swing or even move like a chain would. Why not just enjoy shows and stop trying to find fault like some amateur sleuth?

  • @tamop

    @tamop

    @@CB-xr1eg haha you funny! Tell me, do you ever wash your hands? Or do you maybe just wipe them dry with a towel after a toilet for example? I'm not judging you or Mike, I just think it is much more easy, healthy and comfortable to wash your hands first and dry them second. You should give it a try, maybe you'll like it! Anyways, I was interested why Mike didn't wash his bloody hands instead of using paper towels. Was it because of some trauma or habit or some kind of his old man survivor tactics after uninvited guests to his home? So you should chill a bit, breath in, count to three, breath out. And as for the door chain - it is a door chain. If you had ever seen one, you'd see that it is a door chain. If you hadn't ever seen a door chain, just google "door chain" and look what a door chain is and how it works, and why does it not swing or move whilr it does not swing or move. This will be usefull for your common knowledge horizons, believe me.

    No, just adrenalin shakes. After an aggressive confrontation you'll get this: rapid heart rate, tunnel vision, shakes, perhaps nausea, might be elation and laughter or tears. It's rarely depicted at all in stories. It does diminish with experience but will always be present, that's one cause of PTSD.
