What a masterpiece it still is, even is this abridged version. Mike was just 19 when he composed this. Unbelievably gifted guitarist and composer. Tubular Bells 2 live at Edinborough castle is my favourite though.
Ich war damals in Hamburg live vor Ort . Den Auftritt von Mike Oldfield werde ich nie vergessen . Es war so emotional gewesen . Für mich ist Mike Oldfield der Beste Musiker aller Zeiten .
Fantastic. No one composes like Mike, and no one plays guitar like Mike. Unique.

Fabulous arrangement and performance of the most magnificent piece of music in modern history.
Absolutely fantastic, still after 17 years. Imagine how great it would be the whole Tubular Bells in this arrangement.... Wow.... Btw: John Miles R.I.P: and thank you.

That was always my dream: I thought : he will run out of money and goes on tour ! But unfortunately he is retired .
It's so emblematic that he chooses to play the bass during the opening fragment, just like he did in 1973 for that BBC Live Presentation.

i thought orchestral parts were nice, echoing the rendition on Exposed, however the way drum kit was played and incorporated, with those cymbals stupidly hitting every accent, and then making a boring straight beat over the final theme - barrrffff. how out of place. its like the drummer never heard the original and just jammed along, like on a wedding gig.. with that said, i am always happy to see dear old Mike.
