Mike Love - Interview (1993, Finland)

Музыка

disclaimer: year and location is mostly an educated guess. as you can tell by the vagueness of it all i don't have much of a clue. sadly this isn't a full interview and it kind of fades in and out but this is what i have! it's quite a relaxed kind of interview really, especially compared to what i'm used to w/ 90s mike
also if you see the one frame of a seekbar? shhh. i'm tired and i'm not re-rendering this i'm going immediately to sleep.

This is a side of Mike we don't often see - thoughtful, talking in depth about the talent of his bandmates; he has amazing recall of the very early days. Thanks for sharing.

I think that’s why some people are coming around to empathizing with him more these days. Healthy living has kept him coherent and he continues to be able to tell the story of The Beach Boys. Like him or not, it is important to maintain that.

Goes to show how important it is to stay away from drugs tbh. I know he dabbled in hash maybe some acid but not to the degree of the Wilson’s

Probably the best Mike Love interview I've heard. Night and day between this and the levitation interview in terms of understanding him.

This may be his most balanced interview--he actually seems humble. Love is right about the record companies. Thanks for posting.

The band started out playing school events and county fairs and My Glove has brought them back to those type venues.

They played in Helsinki on June 6th 1993, and YLE is a Finnish tv channel, so your guess might be correct

I find it fascinating that Mike accurately points out how all record companies cheat when he's been married, what, seven times? Also, it's interesting that while he hasn't changed his viewpoints on Brian and Dennis since then, he gave Carl a pass in this interview. That's probably because Carl was still alive and an active member of the band in 1993. Mike probably didn't want to rock the boat at that time any more than he already had, as shortly before then Mike, Carl and Al got into some serious clashes in the band concerning the quality of the music and the recordings they were doing, and Mike arranged for Carl and Al (not Mike, mind you) to see a psychiatrist who was a friend of his. Yes, you read that correctly. You can read about it in Mike's autobiography. Carl certainly didn't get a pass from Mike in that book.

The interview is 32 years after they broke and 31 years before today (2024). Yet 1993-2024 feels like 1/10 of the cultural change that was just 1961-1971 alone.

Mike looks SO much better without his gray beard & mustache!!! They age him a lot ~ my opinion anyway!! And, u know what they say about opinions ~ we ALL have one!! Lol This was a great interview!! I’ve never seen this side of Mike before… too bad he wasn’t in this frame of mind the night the BEACH BOYS were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!!! (maybe he had something else on his mind that was bothering him). Mike definitely has a great memory!!! ❤️❤️😎😎💕💕

Mike gets some bad PR but he was the engine. The attitude. Brothers nailed vocals and Mike was crucial. Listen and oh yea, lets not forget Bruce....all over California Girls.

A lady interviewer. Foreign, therefore exotic, therefore attractive, therefore worth putting up a front for... He's trying to impress her. 100% typical Mike Love ego. He's such a "sweetheart" when it serves his own ends. I cannot wrap my head around how I seem to be the only one to see through this worn out flimsy shtick.
