One thing Migration do perfectly unlike other Illumination movies, is that Migration knows it's a simple movie, it knows to take a slow and simple plot compared to other animated movies like spiderverse. It trys to be calm and unharmed movie to entertain kids and families, and what best time to release this movie is the Hollidays

That's why I really like Luka (and this) Felt much more easy going after all the thought provoking stuff Pixar was making

this movie reminds me a lot of Duck Duck Goose, a movie from 2018, that takes place in China (because the movie is chinese), about a male goose that has to take to ducklings to their duck farm too, far away, even though he didn't like children. It's a very nice movie, heartwarming at the end, but every time someone mentions migration, Duck Duck Goose comes to my mind.

❤️💖 I am optimistic to see Migration since it is original film and ducks 🦆🐣🐥🐤 are my favorite cute animals/birds. At least Illumination doing something an original IP and it is not another unnecessary cash grabbing sequel or remake. I support original ideas 💡 more than sequels and remakes in theaters to show Hollywood that original ideas can make box office hits. I will give this a watch. 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

It IS great!

This was pretty enjoyable. It wasn't anything special, but it was fun to watch. I'd say that it was...passable in the least. The voice acting and the animation is pretty good, and the story is quite interesting. The characters were also done pretty good, but some weren't really necessary, or were just pointless. Also there were a couple of things that could have made the story much better (in my opinion). For starters, we could have known a bit more of Mack and Pam's backstory - like maybe, they knew each other as ducklings and tried new things; but while Pam became adventurous, Mack became anxious. And it would have been nice to see just a bit more of Kim and her family, like maybe have her family stay at the pond until sunset; it would have really helped built her chemistry with Dax. The designs of the animals were fine, but they could have been a bit more accurate. The designs for the ducks was good enough, but Awkwafina's Chump and Keegan-Michael Key's Delroy definitely could of had better designs - heck, Delroy looked closer to a tucan than a macaw. The designs for the people...definitely could have been better. Heck, the design for the Chef was down right terrible. And while I did like that in this movie the humans didn't really talk, and left it to the animals...there was absolutely no need for a villain in this movie. If anything, they should have just gone with actual predators to go after the mallard family. I'm in no way saying the predators actually have to hunt them down throughout their travels, but there should be some predators that will be no matter where they land. Plus, Danny DeVito's Dan, wasn't anything special or funny - which is sad to say, because...it's Danny DeVito. So, by making the movie a little longer, and getting rid of the villain (and maybe the curmudgeonly uncle), it could have made room for improvements. The humor also could have been better. Some jokes were a swing and a miss, and some were actually quite predictable, but there were times when they got a chuckle out of me - such as Chump's bit of being called "chump", or Gwen's long pleading. By the way, Gwen was the cutest thing in the movie. She was like the perfect balance between annoying and adorable. I even liked how Gwen would exaggerate things, and blurt out whatever she was thinking. And in the end where everyone tried to do her "pleading"...it was terrible. Gwen is the cute one, that bit belongs to her. And I liked the chemistry between Mack and Pam, they really did look like a married couple, as well as parents. I also would have liked to see a bit more of the place where the flock rested or landed in; especially Jamaica - it looked so beautiful. Despite all of that, I honestly wouldn't mind a sequel where the family travel to another exotic place.

Thanks for your opinion I agree with alot of your points. The film is called migration so I was excited about the idea we would learn about what it means to migrate and be a little bit educational but instead we got a chef in a helicopter. A bit of of a mess Also we're made to care about the chef buying birds to eat. As if the majority of people don't eat meat them selves.

​@BL4K_B4BIES I certainly can't think of other people who eat ducks. Chickens sure most definitely. I was more surprised the Chef tried to mess with Dax in the first place.

I think the movie as a whole was fine and fun. I think one of the things I really appreciated was the fact that the duck parents were actually a good couple and the movie didn’t feel the need to force a “I’m mad at you and maybe this relationship isn’t going to work but we’ll get back together in the end” trope. They have arguments and disagreements like a real couple and I think it’s nice that their biggest conflict was just the want to spice things up in their relationship and have a little adventure. It was a nice change of pace.

Imo. I think migration is better than Rio. I mean the only thing Rio did better than this is that Rio has Blu who is f..king adorable! And while’s Mack is not a bad character but he’s not as memorable as Blu. But this movie is so entertaining and so adorable. I am a depressed 16 year old boy and this movie is adorable. Also Pam is an apology of jewel.

I’m going to plan to see it next week after Christmas since while I do know it’s not going to be a masterpiece. To me, the film does look fun and interesting, and I’m going to see how it turns out. I’ll just have to wait and see, but I can tell the plot is definitely expected

As an Illumination fan, I honestly believed this would be the year they bring critics down the house. While ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is a good output for fans and non-fans in my humble opinion, ‘Migration’ seemed to have a little more potential with Benjamin Renner as the director. However, its standard road trip plot, short running time, and some plotlines and characters that could have been expanded upon held it a bit back, making the result to be just fine. The wasted potential made this one of Illumination’s faultier works since ‘The Secret Life of Pets 2’. I’m still rooting for the company to make something different, but that’ll have to be real soon.

Calling it now, from Illumination while sounding mediocre even for a movie, They've yet to disappoint me since I love watching their movies. The Super Mario Bro film was quite a family night when we saw it and I guarantee this might also be a great film. Maybe not the Must-Watch since we're more interested in something like Wish or Wonka, but one of these days I'll be in for it.

I literally just got home from watching it, it was SO good! Worth being huped about it since seeing the trailer during the Mario movie! Characters were fun, story was fun, little British duck was adorable, AND Akwafinas role was heavily overexagerated! Really the only issue I had with it was that the "villain" was kinda dumb and forced but even then, they were still a good character! I smiled throughout the ENTIRE thing which for me and movies has NEVER happened! Highly reccomended it to anyone who hasn't seen it!

I saw it today, and I absolutely loved it! I'd give it 5 stars out of 10. It's not the greatest, but I agree with everything you said. It's fun, wholesome, an original IP, and Danny DeVito was absolutely amazing! 😍😂❤🙏🏻👍🏻 Even Awkwafina was pretty funny, and Keegan-Michael Key, with his Jamaican accent, was really enjoyable!

Anyways, Keegan Michael Key did a great 👍🏻 job with his voice acting performance and it does captured nicely with Jamaican accent. It makes me wish he could voice Sebastian in the Little Mermaid remake than Daveed Diggs. He could've been a spiritual successor to the late Samuel Ernest Wright. 🦀 😃😀😄😁😊😉 👍🏻 💖❤️

10:06 - 10:36 I find overprotective parent trope really cliche and overdone too. That trope worked out well with Finding Nemo which makes sense since Marlin lost his wife and other children by barracuda attack and wants to protect Nemo. But now Universal have been using that trope in their 2020 animated films like Dawn's parents in the Croods 2, Lucky's father in Spirit Untamed, and recently Ruby's mother in Ruby Gillman. Why is Universal recycling ♻️ and using this trope in their recent 2020 animated films?! It is starting to become tiresome and overdone. For God sake, do we need another overprotective parent in every animated film/sequel?!!!!! I am going to reference this from AniMat's review Mary Poppins Returns, Mack wouldn't be such an overprotective parent if he haven't learn lessons and have a good chat with the Betterman couple from Croods 2, Spirit Untamed and Ruby's mother from Ruby Gillman. I am sure the five would a lot in common ground and might find ideas 💡 to helped each other out. I mean they do kinda went through the same thing.

@@sonicsnake44 No one is saying that, they're just saying it shouldn't be the only arc and or growth the parents go through in animated stories, which is fair, this trope is so overdone. There's so much more to parenthood than being overprotective that needs to be explored. How about encouraging your child to change and to be more like themselves? Dealing with a kid that's already grown up and has a family of their own? Teaching your child how to get over grief of a loved one- something, anything...

To be fare, even if I haven’t seen the movie yet, Uncle Dan is possibly the best character of the movie. There is so much character into this guy. Thanks to the voice of Danny Devito.

In my opinion. I loved migration. It was a fresh breath of air within all of the new movies coming out during Christmas. Compared to wish? Gosh migration is hundreds of times better. I found it funny and wholesome. Great way to end 2023.

If anything, I wanna go, see this movie just for the sake of seeing the new short starring Vector

as someone who has worked with parrots in the past. The macaw was spot-on in how the writers portrayed him. Making his character a whole lot more funny to me than he really should have been.

Say what u want about Illumination movies, but at least they're inoffensive, right?

If you want more experimental animated films that aren't Japanese, then I highly recommend that you look at French animation. There are some hidden gems. EG April and the extraordinary world.

Of course the ducks go to new york. They couldn't go to Italy, Romania or Africa. There's not a lot animated movies in thoses countries. I want to see talking animals go there, not New york 😐

Well look at that, Illumination made a blue sky studios movie and the comparisons are unavoidable to bring up. Think about it, it features an all star cast, a prominent theme of birds, John Powell provided the film's score, and sadly there are more flaws than pros to be found here!! Even if it's original and looks nothing like the previous Illumination films, I have a strong feeling people are just gonna skip out on this one in favor of seeing Wonka or Aquaman 2. Seriously when watching the film the day before its nation wide release, me and my dad were the only ones in the theater. We both enjoyed the film okay, but agreed that we have zero desire of seeing it again in the future. Not to mention the marketing was pretty nonexistent where most of the focus was put onto the super Mario movie back in April, it is that cornering the more you realize how originality at the studio is really dry to dead. In short, this is a huge wake up call for llumination that just because you played it safe more than once, doesn't mean your film would immediately be a success!! 🤦‍♂🦆🦆🦆

I have yet to own the Mario movie on blu ray because it features a small amount of bonus features which is quite disappointing since Illumination is strictly protective of their private image. Where else Pixar or Dream Works fully embraces bonus features like no tomorrow!!!

I honestly really liked Migration when I saw it. I thought it was kinda cute.

It's a must-watch for me!

14:20 Mooned

"Le Grand Mechant Renard" is really good.

I enjoyed this movie. It was enjoyable from every aspect, its picture book aesthetic in 3D, family dynamics, and visual imagery sold it well. I consider it one of Illumination’s best movies to date and it’s just an excellent original family movie overall. Simple in its story but its execution was exceptional thanks to Benjamin Renner’s direction, John Powell's music (one of my favorite composers) and the breathtaking animation. What I enjoy about it because within its brisk 75 minutes of storytelling, it is allowed to breathe and the pacing between each set piece feels seamless. And it became the unexpected sleeper hit a lot like Elemental in terms of non-franchise filmmaking.

I knew this would get a 6/10

I was in Jamaica this September and I didn’t see no ducks but did see crabs and other native animals

The reviews are still not that great.

This is the kind of movie that would’ve got a video game adaptation on PS2 era

from what i saw from the previews, this did look like it was just an ok movie. nothing bad, but nothing super standouty or anything. You know what to expect. sounds like a rent on DVD for the kids or watch in the background if you have Peacock, which I assume this is what it'll be on since its from Illumination.

I know Illumination plays it safe, but this felt a little too safe.

I loved both Illuminations new feature films Mario and Migration, Mario had a good plot, it felt like Sonic when the characters had a dialogue for the first time and it’s animation looked more like the games than any Illumination movie, which is good, it references the 1993 Mario movie but its animate and had more things that had to do with the games, it even had rainbow road from Mario Kart and new remixes from the original games, Chris Pratt did a really good job voicing Mario as well, all of the cast including Charles Martinets cameo was great. But one of the biggest problems in the Mario movie is the way how they say Mario’s name, it’s still a good movie and probably in my opinion the best movie from Illumination, Despicable 1 was good along with Mario. Migration was also really good, I couldn’t stop laughing at the funny moments in the movie, it had good humor, they had great actors for this movie like Mrs. Tarantulas voice actress Awkwafina from the Bad Guys as Chump, they had Elizabeth Banks as Mack’s wife Pam, they had Toads actor from Super Mario Keegan Michael Key as Delroy, and Danny Devito as Uncle Dan. Mooned was amazing, it made me laugh so hard, I actually was waiting for Vector to return one day, but too bad he didn’t get back to earth.😞 The ratings for these two movies Mario 10/10 Migration 9/10

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is very overrated.

I just got one thing to say. What the duck? This is basically Illumination’s answer to Rio, or something the king of 2D and 3D animated flops, yet still very well animated films, Richard Rich would come up with. If I want to see mallards, I’d go to the river near where I live. Or go to the duck pond near Margam Park. They got mandarin ducks there too. How widespread are mandarin ducks anyway?

Yeah, I will say that its a film that should preferably be watched at home. I don’t see it as a bad film since I will give it credit for what it tried to do and is an original idea. but it’s just not enough to make me see this in theaters. I may see it at some point, but not now at the moment.

I think it would be a lot when you review Peter Pan in Return to Neverland.

I mean for a studio like Illumination they nailed it with the super Mario bros movie and so a movie like this has very good animation Illumination is improving very well

If we get more movies that don’t focus on minions they would be good because I honestly like the other films that don’t involve the minions

I liked it. It's not a groundbreaking movie but I liked the humor and the characters a lot. 😭

I really enjoyed this movie and its quirky personalities of the Mallard family is fabulous to watch. Good watch overall. Not deep but full of humour. Most families watching will love it. Animation was top notch for Illumination. Much better than the latest Wish from Disney.

Migration The Story: 7/10 The Animation: 9/10 The Characters: 7/10 The Movie: 8/10 Migration is a movie I wasn't excited to see, but I was interested. All I can say is that just watch this movie for fun, not to criticize or judge just because you hate anything illumination makes.

I give it 4 stars out of 5. Like you said, it’s nothing too daring, but safe and entertaining. It felt somewhat like Nemo and Rio cobbled together. The duck sanctuary scene was so funny, with it all framed like a New Age cult. The parts where the ducks would fly around in circles made me slightly dizzy, which took away from my enjoyment of the movie a bit. Bg music was pleasant to listen to. Some characters had voices that I found slightly annoying, but nothing too bad. Most of the jokes were weak, nothing LOL-worthy, but I did chuckle a lot. Would I watch it again? Maybe, but I know I have better options.

(4/10) The Story (10/10) The Animation (6/10) The Characters I Give Migration (7/10) It's a Good Movie for the Family but it's a Rio Knock Off

The first two Despicable Me films will always be the best Illuminations films to me.
