'Migrants Will Go To Northern Ireland To ESCAPE Rwanda!' - NI Court Disapplies Rwanda Bill
Solicitor Sinead Marmion explains how the Illegal Migration Act was disapplied by a Northern Ireland court due to concerns a migrant would not be processed.

The Government says they will not allow Northern Ireland to be the exception to the UK’s Rwanda scheme after a court judgment in Belfast.
The ruling delivered in the High Court on Monday would disapply large sections of the UK’s Illegal Migration Act in Northern Ireland.
Mr Shapps said: “We will ensure we will do everything that’s required to make sure … that Northern Ireland can’t be in this position. Because we believe firmly in being able to control our own borders.
“We are absolutely going to appeal that ruling.
“We won’t let Northern Ireland be an exception - exemption - to the rule in the United Kingdom.”

What about the people stuck on long waiting lists for medical care, all those people that can’t get a national health dentist? What about the housing shortage getting worse? They come from squalid conditions in France and object to going into army barracks that are heated, and they will get fed. If it’s good enough for our troops, it’s certainly good enough for them

She will be paid via legal aid or these NGO’s which are mostly run through government funds, it’s an oxymoron that the government have brought this bill and are now being thwarted by lawyers and organisations funded by the government/taxpayer. Makes me think if they really wanted the Rwanda plan they would stop all funding to organisations & lawyer firms which bring legal challenges. My feeling is they are just using this as electioneering and really don’t care about the high numbers, they have done nothing over the past few years

This was a case in a Northern Ireland Court. The ECHR is part of the Good Friday Agreement and any changes to the Good Friday Agreement must be agreed to by the Co guarantors of the Agreement, the British and Irish governments and the parties in Northern Ireland.
