There is no longer Mig31 in Russia. All aircraft are modified to MiG-31 BM. It means a new engine, a new radar, a new target indicator. For the convenience of the pilot, an ILS is installed in the 1st cockpit instead of a PPI, as well as a multifunctional LCD display on which tactical information is displayed. In addition, thanks to the use of the latest materials in the design, it was possible to remove some of the operational restrictions, in particular, on the dynamic heating of the cockpit canopy. Now the interceptor can fly for a long time at speeds close to M = 2.83, and therefore is the fastest aircraft in the world!

The plane is made out of nickel (stainless) steel because aluminum can't handle Mach 3. At the time, the Soviet Union was (unknowingly) selling its titanium to the United States for use in building the SR-71. I don't think the Americans considered making the Blackbird out of steel. The Mig-31's weight necessitates landing at abnormally high speeds, requiring parachutes on even normal length runways.
