Given the resources and technology that the USSR had at its disposal back in the late 70's and early 80's, the MiG-29/SU-27 family truly are aerodynamic masterpieces. And the fact that they consequently kept improving the trusted designs shows a good level of efficiency. The Raptor is at least a whole generation ahead but like the F-15/F-16, these old russian jets are still competitive, especially in numbers.

Then, he flew STRAIGHT UP OVER MY HEAD!!!!!! The engines were rectangular. The noise was heart-pounding. The vibrations shook my entire body. I almost soiled my pants. This video does not do justice to the raw power of those engines. .

None of this matters because little circuit boards, sensors, software, and decent weapons are the only difference makers in a match like this. No pilot defending his or herself nor their country is going to wait around to get to maneuvering distances. Good luck rest of the world? Example: to counter Nazi medium tanks, such as PZ.3 and PZ.4, Soviet Union began with production of T-34 medium tanks. These tanks had angled armor(60 degrees in front). Now Nazi tanks had problems with penetrating T-34's upper glacis from long ranges. Production of Nazi's Tiger 1 heavy tank started. Tiger 1 could penetrate T-34's upper glacis from roughly 2km(6561 ft). So do you see my point? When USA gets their 6th gen fighters the rest of the world will come with a way to neutralize these fighters. And thats how its been working since humans started living on Earth and thats how it will be until the Earth stops spinnin'!

You are in the dark. Migs 28s, 29s and 31s are all complete titanium and built to more exacting standards than commercially produced assembly line warplanes. Russian aeronautical engineers try to advance the state while our companies hire foreign engineers and scientists who immigrate for the paycheck. Russian attention to detail has given us the ejection seats we use now and the rockets that took us to space the last 20 years. When Russia sent Migs to Syria we immediatly got our obsolete F15s & 16s out. Israel and the U.S. don't let their warplanes near Iran because they have Russian AA, considered the best in the world. America has underestimated every enemy since WWII. The Vietnamese and Iraqis were still shooting when we were driven out. Where’s the “vs” part? The video was 90% Mig. And, as mentioned by others these two planes are 25 or more years apart. Different generations...

Only 23 years apart between service entry dates. The mig29 entered service in 1982. The F22 entered service in 2005.

Its like the old beautiful ferrari and modern, advanced ferrari. Both great but the classic one is... You just want to watch it flying, screaming and smoking. Pure, muscular and powerful machine.

I like the Tomcat and the "Bodybuilder" F-15. I believe the F-15 has still the vertical acceleration Record. From leaving the ground till 20.000meters (not feet) 1m:03s!! Concorde needed 14 Minutes. Empty and with maximum Power.

The Mig 29 is a decent aircraft but by no means can it even think of going head to head with an F22, it is not even a contest plus they should work on those smokey engines on the Mig you can see it coming from miles away just like the old F 4 Phantoms.

....... forgot to mention the 29s pathetic reliability. No one ever mentions the Russian built aircraft sit on the ground broken, more than they fly, their tanks are like that too. You get what you pay for, I guess. Great air show and parade equipment though.
