@@m3ntal_c0re jealous comment. Sorry for your butthurt. The West not only has superior technology….they have far superior training and crew. You can dream all you want about 3 or 4 cool looking SU fighters but they would be easy money for a flock of f35….not to mention f-22s or that gorgeous Typhoon with Europes top pilots in the cockpit. The real dominating factor is our motivation. Our pilots don’t want to defect. They fight for freedom and they are told WHY they are going to war. Our pilots also get more than 6 flight hours per month unlike the others. You need flight hours in well maintained planes with excellent ground crews behind you….plenty of parts and upgrades at the ready. The West is so far superior it’s not even an argument. The Russians have shown their capabilities and they are bad….really bad. They can’t even proclaim air dominance over a small country that sits on their boarder. Want to talk China? They are just as bad. They have lots of soldiers but suicide rates are through the roof. Poor training and technology that is behind. They all know how to show up at an air show but….air shows don’t dominate an air war. I agree with Scythi….not only am I glad I’m on their side….I thank GOD they are on my side. I sleep well at night and feel quite comfortable typing crap on KZread in my free country.

What always impresses me about the Typhoon is it seems to turn about a random axis every time. It's just oddly intriguing. Sometimes it's a few feet from the tail and then other times it's near the canards. If it didn't exist and was CGI in a film, nobody would believe it's movements were faithful to a real aircraft. I've no idea of the benefit in a dogfight, if avionics would even allow such close combat, but it is such a scene stealer at airshows. The F22 is mindblowing to watch as well. It is more elegantly agile though. It's spectacularly aerobatic but makes it look easy and choreographed. In contrast, you imagine that the Typhoon is an airborne mechanical bull when it's doing it's stuff. :)

  • @russellbrown8377

Agreed, the typhoon, particularly flown by the raf seems on the edge and almost out of control how the tail slides. I really like the barrel roll they use to accelerate and/or decelerate, that move really shows how much the tail does slide out

The throttle response on the EJ200 is exceptionally quick, but love the scallop nozzles on the F22 engines and they really seem to help the it pull really tight climbs and seems to have a phenomenal turn radius. Both great planes. Not saying one is better than the other but have a soft spot for The Typhoon as followed its development from inception to starting its service with the Royal Air Force.

The most impressive aircraft for a take off and straight to vertical, was without a doubt, the Lightning on reheat.

True. There's a You Tube vide: F-14 v F-22, I believe at Nellis. The F-14 also goes vertical....after a much longer time building speed. I've seen the Raptor go straight into an unrestricted vertical climb at the Abbotsford air show last year. It's the combination of the Raptor's capabilities that are unrivalled, from what I can see. Then there's the EW capabilities of the 22 and 35...which hasn't been used even in blue on blue exercises. All of these platforms are capable. The 22? Just capable in more areas than any other.....so far.....

Dylan, I suspect your information in comparing the Typhoon to the Raptor is based on 'incomplete information. Here's a quote from an F-22 driver. This off of an F-16.net thread entitled Time to climb record-F-22. It is loaded with information a fun read, to say the least. Posts: 74 Joined: 19 Jul 2006, 21:39 28 Aug 2006, 03:29 Just an update. Here's a nice piece of information from "Dozer". "At slower speeds the engines are not putting out maximum thrust, the more air flow there is through the motors the more thrust you're getting, so, for example, I did a takeoff where I was at about 570 knots at Edwards, I was prior to the end of the runway, not used to being that fast so I pulled up to 90 degrees nose high (single ship with my own tanker and first chance to try this with a Raptor so I decided to see what she'd do), and the mass flow at that point is close to producing max possible thrust, the a/c continued to accelerate in the climb to .99 mach passing about 20 thousand feet and then slowly began to decelerate - (unofficially according to the engineers I would have ended up around 65+ thousand feet on that day and broke every time to climb record we could think of for category & weight class -- and oh by the way, that wasn't a Streak Eagle or Flanker stripped down bare with weight removed, no external stores for combat configuration, etc., that was in a stock, off the line F-22, fuel of gas, combat configured with the internal weapons bay full - as an Eagle guy previous I was absolutely astonished, I hope someday we go after the official records because this jet will likely crush most of them. One last interesting point is that I did that going straight up after takeoff (that day I ended up blasting past my assigned altitude at Edwards of 29 thousand after takeoff, ended up at 31.5 AFTER a 5g pull to level out which at that weight and altitude should bleed energy fast but when I rolled out I was still at 330knots KCAS!!), but normally to get those altitudes they use a specific climb profile like the Streak Eagle did (I forget what it's called) climb at .9m to the mid 30 thousands, push over to accelerate to supersonic and then finish the climb profile to bust the records from there)."

I suspect the claim for the F 22 was before the pilot found he could not breath and later it had to have an emergency back up oxygen system installed at great cost and added weight. Maybe why no one has tried to break any records with the Flop 22.

Too much? is that why pilots found they could not breath and why the F 22 had a back up oxygen fitted then since it had to be operated manually and that is hard for an unconscious pilot, later an automatic back up oxygen system was fitted.

I must have been a really humid day! See the Wilson Effect on the top surface of the wing. When the air is near saturated with humidity, a sudden drop in pressure causes the excess moisture to momentarily "drop out" of the air and form a cloud. Ice will form on a wing at a much higher temperature than 32F, due to the vacuum above the wing surface. It will happen at like 40 degrees F. Ice formed in carburetors at the venturi surface for the same reason. Way above the temp you'd think it would happen!!

@Foggy's Friend Wrong. The F-15 beat the previous aircraft to hold the climb record F-15 hit 98,425ft(33000m) in 3min. Hate to break it to you but that was done 40 years ago, and nothing has attempted to break it. Don't forget the "Cold War" didn't end till 'the wall' came down.

"The US plane is better!""No the EU plane is better!""No.. OURS is better!""WRONG! OURS IS BETTER!"*name calling and internet aircraft expert arguments that include false, incorrect, or fantasy data**Gets in their Honda and drives home*Lmfao who cares which plane is really better? They both rock and are better than anything any of us could build. Be glad they are on the same team and learn to just enjoy them.

and that's where you just played yourself, "russian jets are better and the pilots more skilled... usa is good in running its mouth and propaganda machine" that's where Russian state run media has infiltrated your mind, so saying that U.S.A propaganda machine is good is extremely ironic. Have you looked up the statistics for each plane, I think you will find the Russian planes are a pile of crap compared to it's western counterparts. "Pilots more skilled"? What makes you say that? More propaganda, or have you actually seen two or more pilots (one from Russia and one from the west) fight each each other? Oh yeah and "are they on the same team?" what is that supposed to mean? Europe despite brexit is still made up of western countries that are part of Nato, U.N etc and have good alliances with each other so to suggest that they won't be on the same team is rather troll like which brings me to the conclusion that you are a Russian troll and I've just wasted my time replying to you. (Btw I'm British not American)

Yassine Sabri You said that Russia has better jets than the US but the said that Russia was right behind the US. Which one? Ever since WW II the US has had the best jets and the best pilots, if Russia had better jets why wouldn’t other countries buy from them instead of the U.S. Even Britain has bought several F-35s. Both Russia and China tried to build stealth fighters and both failed miserably. Russia has been behind the U.S for a while. They also don’t have the budget because their economy sucks which is caused by their own doing. I also have never seen U.S. propaganda while it is well know Russia has never been scared to use propaganda

TopFelya - I know. This takes a special type of person. My Father was a pilot and I wanted to be as well but couldn’t due to being color blind. It would have been my dream job to be a commercial pilot. I’d love a ride in one of these amazing machines and once again, thanks for posting.
