I love the Mig 29, also good range if you stay out of afterburner (although most people don't really know how to monitor that correctly and just go full burn).

Great video, as always. Keep going! btw. don't mix up miles and nautical miles 😉. The MAR would have actually been 18.5 km.

The Astra program has picked up speed after the IAF was disappointed with the Su-30/ Adder combo during the scuffle over kashmir . Although the Su-30s managed to survive several AMRAAMs but failure to down the PAF planes by the premier airsuperiority fighters some say even lock them up left them fuming hence the push for Astra Mk 1 and the later variants to makeup the short comings. The program was aided with knowledge gained from joint indo Israeli Barak 8 program too I suppose

The way you describe the situation, I think you was inside the Su30. American counterparts cannot digest that F16 was shoot down by mig 21 bison, It was only because of Su30s maintaining lock and put them in defensive. 6 to 7 F16 can't even shoot 2 Su30s even after launching AMRAAMs in a row.

@@RahulSingh-rg4pm idk man, I wouldnt be surprised if su30 has a better radar than f16 but a mig21 shooting down a f16 never seemed real to me, despite all the reports. Sure the F16 is way superior than any mig21 as we know, however even one evidence of the f16 being shot down would be great.

India is testing a new mission computer on its Mig 29k platform which will allow integration of Indian and western origin weapons on the plane.

Best way to make it look accidental is to do a fly by and collapse the chute. A shedded pilot or chute is a dead giveaway

Hi! Please, consider explaining those sounds in the cockpit: BEEPS, DONGS, RINGS, etc… What do they mean? Sometimes they are radar warnings, other are locks, GPW… whatever. Thnks

In mig29, slow, repetitive beep means you are detecting signal from enemy radar. Continuous tone means you are being locked, and fast beeping you get when radar guided missile is launched at you. In tight turns you can hear a different sound, which indicates that aircraft is being over G-ed. I believe same sound also indicates when aircraft is stalled and if there is a fire to the engine.

Also fun fact, astra mk1 integration with mig 29 is not yet done ( mig 29 k of indian navy will get them before mig 29 upg most likely) Mig 29 UPG = IAF Mig 29 K/kub = Indian navy ac jets Update - integration to mig 29 k of navy is in work, airforce will take a year or two and by then astra mk2 will also come with a dpp and max range of around 100 miles or 160 kms

@@xmlthegreat dpp means dual pulse propulsion, btw astra mk2 will have an aesa radar ( yes aesa) and the astra mk1 will also have the same ku band aesa. The advantage of DPP over solid rocket booster is that dpp is more efficient and range is higher for similar sized missile

Hey GS, just wanted to say that this was a great video. Had it not been for you penetrating deep into the the PAF F-16’s minimum abort range, you’d have killed a F-16 using a MiG-29 and not died. However, the second round was OP. Man you’re an awesome pilot. Great video 👏🇮🇳

As a follow up to this video, maybe you can do a match up between the Indian MIG19s with the Astras against Pakistani JF17s with the SD10s. Better yet, make that engagement a group vs group BVR to merge type of encounter, instead of a 1 vs 1.

This is 29S, its most noticeable external difference from 29(9-12) is its characteristic long aerodynamic ridge. Don't pay attention to the camouflage, this is not a MiG-29K, the aerodynamic ridge of the 29K is identical to 29(9-12) Надеюсь поймёт

all variants are the same but the A variant does not have the R-77 and has a worse radar, and the G or german variant has an improved engine to the A and S

Extremely underrated fighter. I've always had a soft spot for it because I had a Mig-29 Fulcrum simulator way back in the 90's which was pretty darn legit for the computers at the time.

That was a well intercept I must say, but the way you got cocky in the mar and got pay back in the end was classic. lol

These modern fights, i am no expert, but these fights look more like number's game more than anything.. we were promised that better, smarter weapons will keep the operators safe, better standoff, smarter identification, everything working together to allow the winner to come back home.. The more i watch these simulations, the more it seems that no one from either side is safe.. even in that China vs India team fight that Growling made, only one J 17 went back home, and the rest of the unit was lost.. seems like a number game, an extremely dangerous number game to me..

Also, knowing our Indian armed forces, i dont think our pilots (or soldiers, or sailors) will turn back once they exhaust their BVR units.. 😅 I am sure they will go in for a knife fight up close.. And, although they are our adversaries, I think PL forces will do the same .

I am aware of the reduced cross section, but as far as i remember, that steel marbel rcs is only from direct front and direct back. Also, most countries will have a layered SAM systems, and believe me, no matter how DCS portrays rusi SA missiles blowing up mid air, the real things are not so polite .

@@SoumalyaBarai Well Abhinandan Varthaman had done exactly that. From publicly available info he had crossed the LOC and went after the F-16 even though his wingman had turned tale.

You should use the mig-25 with some Hypersonic long-range missiles and take to make 29 since it's fast and see if it's just as good as the F-16 from notching the missiles I would love to see that. I'm not taking credit for this but I did say that I would love to see the F-16 versus the MiG-29 to me the mid-29 is the Russian F-16 LOL obviously the F-16 is my favorite plane. But I believe somebody else also asked about this video. But thank you very much for the video thank you for putting your time and effort into these videos. I wish they had the F-16 XL mod. No one has made it yet I wish somebody would do it because that was the original design and had a bigger wingspan it would be cool if they did a what if or somebody that does mods can do a what if cuz some planes have not made it into combat. I would say in terms of speed it's not "an even match up", Mig-29 is significantly faster 2.0 Ma Viper vs 2.3 Ma Fulcrum.

Depends on how much each one slows down due to not being in a clean configuration. I guarantee you that neither will do mach 2 with missiles on them.

@@wurfyy I fully understand that but it translates directly to the performance of a fully loaded aircrafts. Mig-29 will be faster in every configuration (equal configuration between those two aircrafts).

@@dash3dot It is absolutely not that simple. Different weapons create different amounts of drag, have different weights, are attached to different pylons for which the same is true, the aerodynamics of the aircraft can be affected in strange ways etc etc.

Is the radar on the MiG 29 useful enough to employ the Astras well? Easiest way to convert KMs to NMs is to double KMs and subtract about 10-20%

@@Shubham-1999 Now both Astra Mk1 and Mk2 have indigenously developed Seekers and Yes Astra has been integrated with Indian Air Force Mig 29UPG and ofcourse Su 30MKI has it. Naval Mig 29K are yet to be integrated with Astra. Waiting for Astra Mk3 with a range of 340km (210 miles) and Astra IR - 80 km (50 miles)

Does chaff really do anything then against radar guided missiles? Seems like apart from speed or terrain, your only defense would be presenting your smallest profile and dumping chaff at the right moment -

Given what you say about BVR regarding how important speed is. Shouldn't the slow F35 be at a very significant disadvantage if low observably is compromised/defeated?

The F-35 is slower than most 4th gen aircraft in a clean configuration. However, 4th gen aircraft in a clean configuration are armed with nothing but a gun. The F-35 in a clean configuration can carry several missiles. If you put missiles on those 4th gen aircraft, they suddenly slow down a lot. If you have an F-35 with compromised low observability, it's a bit more even, but it still retains all the advantages such as its radar and other sensors, datalink etc that still make it an extremely difficult fight for the 4th gen aircraft. Odds are the F-35 won't even bother to drop those wing pylon JDAMs that compromised its low observability to begin with. Fat Amy is a hell of a thing to fight.

Many countries are producing and developing small fighters which are cheap, light, small, low radar crosssection and can carry multiplel type of armament. We wanna see how heavy fighters and small fighters compete with each other.

Well you would need a key board, mouse and a monitor along with probably an HDMI cable. But other than the hotas and probably track IR that's it

have you tried tilting the radar sideways, so you can point your radar towards the opponent without fully pointing your nose? does it make a difference?

It would went trying to reacquire target. The radar will automatically do it within gimbal limits with a STT lock

Pretty sure a Eurofighter would win 90% of the time. The Meteor and Eurofighter have shot beyond 60 miles before, which is unheard of in the 14 realistically. Max range of the Phoenix that I have driven off is 40 miles against a maneuvering target, and I think it is the same for the Eurofighter. The Phoenix is not designed to shoot fighters down, but instead bombers, and considering how draggy the Phoenix is, the Phoenix can’t really do much against the meteor.

F-15 vs F-18 would be cool for a dogfight I think. Air Force vs Navy.

Which one has greater range in DCS: the Astra either the R-77-1 or R-77M?

R-77-1 and Astra are the same. Astra uses the same seeker as the r-77-1 but with some Indian software changes and slight design changes

I want to get a new HOTAS setup and I still can't decide between WingWing, Virpil, Thrust Master, and VKB. Right now, I am leaning towards WingWing with their new base and their F16EX setup. What should I do?!
