MIG-25 Free Cockpit Camera - Space Affairs History

MIG-25 Free Cockpit Camera - Space Affairs History.
Between 2000 and 2006 we flew the mighty MIG-25, NATO codename "Foxbat" at the Zuchowsky aerodrome nearby Moscow. The MIG-25 was capable of carrying our clients in altitudes in between 80,000 and 90,000 feet using the high powered jet engines nearby Mach 2,3.
This is a rare video of the flight, done in April 2004, from inside the cockpit during a trip up to more than 82,000 feet.
Flights stopped in 2006 after Zuchowsky closed for civilian flights.

    FYI, we had to put a special heat braking warning light there to not have them accidentally explode fuel by overheating it despite wasting 5 kg of silver per plane to insulate engines and fuel tanks.

    You can't see the cabin from the inside. What is the point of this video - I do not understand. Why call the video a 360 cockpit if you can't see anything else except the pilot's head and part of the dashboard?

  • @Space-Affairs

    Where you see "360-Degree"? I filmed the video by self in 2004, in that time cams were different, because nearby 20 years ago. This is a camera which I had in my hand during the flight to move it around, so that is the meaning for a "free camera". Try to do the same with Mach 2,5 and sometimes +4G (And before you say something, the limits of the MIG-25 are +4G because the jet is huge). So, what is your point here?

    @@johncunningham4820 Sr-71 could outrun a missile at that altitude. 3.800 kmh is faster than the top speeds of their missiles back then. Mig-25 was capable of 2.9 machs at that altitude and the highest ever recorded speed was i think 3.1. The main problem was that they were almost subsonic on a sea level flight. MIG was enough to concern BlackBirds but they were basically sitting ducks for other pilots. It couldnt maneuver, didnt pack enough power on low altitudes, had horrible visibility and it weighed more than 20 tons. That’s in fact the reason why they developed the Mig-31 Foxhound.

    You hear the original sound of the cockpit. It is noisy, but as higher you go, as more quite it is because of the lower density of the air around.

    @@Space-Affairs why retire this phenomenal machine?

  • @Space-Affairs

    @Space-Affairs

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@YashSharma-mv5ee The Soviet Unions defence doctrine was never to build high-performance jets for a long lifetime. The MIG-25 had one demand first: to intercept high flying Mach 3 bombers (XB-70 "Valkyrie") what the USAF wanted to get into service, but that never happened. The MIG-25 was able to intercept a lot of planes because of speed and altitude, but was really cost-intensive and needed a lot of maintenance. The successor of the MIG-25 is the MIG-31, what looks nearby the same but still is an entirely new designed aircraft, these planes are in service nowadays. Over the decades, the duty of air superiority changed totally, and it wasn't necessary to have such jets available. So, the MIG-25 got old and was retired. At the Zuchovsky airbase, there was the Gromov Flight Research Institute (a kind of "Top Gun" in Russia), and they host all variety of jets. So also the MIG-25, on which we had access to to fly "Edge of Space" or "High Altitude" flights. In 2006 that stopped. There are only some of them flying nowadays, India also had some, but they are even retired.
