Miele Washer and Dryer: Stacking Kit/Moving Day

Ғылым және технология

I've moved and finally been able to move the Miele washer and dryer with me. Fortunately I had a big hall cupboard which I've had plumbed for the machines, and used Miele's Stacking Kit WTV501 to stack the dryer - they're extremely heavy appliances so I had to get help both with the move and lifting the dryer on top of the washer. It's working well, I'm pleased to have a decent laundry cupboard now and in an open plan living space their quietness is great. I love how they look at night :)

    I just picked up a set and used the same stack kit. I considered the one with a drawer, but it was going to make it that much higher for my vertically challenged wife to reach the dryer. The Miele washer and dryer are the best engineered appliances I have ever owned.

    You also stacked the two machines on wooden/laminate floor. Miele after sales told me the reason why my washing machine vibrates is mostly because it is not on concrete or tiles. But I think your unit is fairly stable even in the beginning of spin cycle!

    I bought the Miele W1 +T1 washer and dryer in May 2020, expecting the same perfect performance as my Miele dishwasher, but it has been a head banging experience from the start. It’s the dryer. The touch screen stops responding, so I can’t dry the clothes. I’ve had the Miele technician out twice. The first time, the technician said the dryer was fine, even though I told him the fault was intermittent. A week later, the dryer stopped altogether. Because of Covid, there is a 2-week wait for a service call. I dried my clothes on a portable line outside, while my $1,900 dryer stood inoperable. The 2nd tech replaced the touch pad control panel, and I had a month of trouble free drying. Today the touch screen stopped working again. I had to call Miele 3 times because I was disconnected after being placed on hold for extended periods of time. I asked for a new machine, and was told this was not possible until the 4th tech visit. Again I will be waiting 14 days before the tech can come out for the 3rd call. It has become clear that the only satisfaction I will get from this experience is taking a loss, buying a machine that works, and moving on. This seems to be the new Russian roulette of purchasing appliances, sometimes you win, and sometimes you get a hole in your head. I’m posting this to create a record for future buyers who want to make an informed purchase.

    The touchscreen sucks. This should be an OLED display with much better contrast. Also the font is weird and too small and the whole layout of the Interface is disproportionate. Honestly I’m considering buying an older Miele model that has the multi-line display but non-touch.

    Nice setup! Love matching machines. I have a WCR860 but no matching dryer, yet! What kind of fitting was that and where did you get the fittings for the drain pipe? I’ve not been able to plumb my dryer in for nearly two years because both pipes don’t fit. That looks perfect what you have. I’m in the UK.

    Thank you! I'm in the UK and the twin drain attachment is on Amazon or from Wickes, link here: www.wickes.co.uk/McAlpine-V33WM-Connection-for-Standpipe-Trap---38mm/p/227038 Note that the orange insert there is from the Miele dryer itself, it's part of the waste pipe kit at the back which you can disconnect from the drawer. I think this is a standard Miele but check the model you plan to buy does this!

    Vibrations can be reduced by changing the wooden floor for concrete (or flagstone). Since you've already gone to the trouble of installing plumbing in there, it'd be a small finishing touch. It's only a tiny laundry cupboard so you won't really have to worry about getting cold feet whilst walking around in there because you wont' really be walking around in there. It shouldn't be too expensive either since it's usually priced per square meter and you don't have many square meters in there.

    How would installing concrete floors in a flat be an easy job ?! Most U.K. houses have entirely wooden floors with gaps underneath, I really don’t think you can just add concrete like that

  • @quartzlump

    @quartzlump

    3 жыл бұрын

    It would be a professional job, not a DIY project. When I say it's a "small finishing touch", I'm only referring to the 2D area, a couple of square meters at most, and the fact it shouldn't disrupt the rest of the house while the work is carried out. The depth will be the only expense, if the floor is further from the earth then there'll be more concrete needed to fill it. Most people would consider it overkill just to reduce vibrations, and that's a valid opinion, but it would work.

    Where is it "obvious" that this video is of an upper floor installation? Where have you made it obvious that you might want to do this in an upstairs environment? You would normally have this type of thing on the ground floor, hence my comment regarding how far away the earth is. The uploader specifically says on the opening seconds that they have moved into this new "house". Your own comment to me specifically sets out to "school" me on how "U.K. houses have wooden floors". Have you seen many "houses" that had an upstairs kitchen? You might have a basement underneath your kitchen, but in that case you may well have a concrete floor down there already, especially if your basement is a garage, because an 800+ kg vehicle will need a concrete floor. In the opening seconds you can see the kitchen tiles immediately next to the cupboard where the washer-dryer stack is going to be installed, so this looks like a ground floor. Who would stick a washer-dryer stack upstairs anyway? Most UK houses have a floor weight limit of approximately 150 kg per square meter, and these Miele machines easily weigh 100 kg for the washer and 60 kg for a vented dryer (80 kg for a condenser or heat pump model). Coupled with the fact that's 60 cm wide and 70 cm deep means you're proposing putting 160-180 kg across 0.42 square meters. ie if you installed a washer-dryer dryer stack upstairs, you'd be over that limit, and it could eventually fall through the floor even without concrete. You seemed to "need" to argue the idea that this wasn't as easy as I suggested it would be, as if you're life wouldn't be complete without this argument and now you're coming up with completely unrealistic scenarios just in an attempt to "win". So I don't know if you really want to put a washer-dryer stack upstairs on wood floor, but if really do, and this genuinely isn't just an attempt to win an argument then seriously, c.y.a. and take it up with a structural surveyor, not me, but I'll be amazed if they're happy with you doing that.

    Heey, I have a miele washer dryer, and I was wondering is it clever to always spin the clothes on 1600 or 1500 rpm. ? (I use only these speeds) Do miele bearings have better quality than other brands? It would be a shame for an expensive machine to breake after a short time of usage..

  • @sabistar44

    @sabistar44

    4 жыл бұрын

    I was told the engineers don't carry bearings as they are confident they'll never need replacing. Sometimes though, if the fabric is thin, I will lower the spin speed - no point in maxing the bearings out for no reason. As for the speed, it's very good at balancing. Very occasionally if I put a small load of towels in it won't spin at full speed.

    I have a 15 or 16 years ago machine, several years ago the shock absorbers failed; I did not get them replaced very fast (I also spin at 1600rpm when available for the program) it did hit against the glass and only eventually did I get them replaced. My mother board failed a year ago and Miele now said that the drum bearings are now near wearing out. I don’t know if it is related, but I wondered if I caused them to wear out sooner due to not quickly replacing the shocks when they failed.

    Hated the stacking kit, for some reason. Took it off and stacked them without and never a vibration since new in 2013. Waste of money for the stacking kit, and a mates had the drawer one and was worse. Just stack on top of each other and level them with th3 adjustable feet. Should come with a small spanner to adjust.
