Lots of respect for all the disciplines you rely on, Jeff. I've been an engineer on state of-the art high tech tools and instrumentation (diagnostics, fabrication) for 30 years and I've had to learn just about every discipline in the process. It's amazing how involved each discipline can be if you're good at it. When you have to combine all these skillsets in one job, with only one person, it's almost mental saturation. So again, respect for how you keep packing that understanding in and learning more and more about these complex disciplines.

Love your honesty when mistakes happen and then show solutions. Much respect to you. Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I've been able to do alot of things myself saving money.

Great content. I like how you don’t leave out mistakes or edit the footage too much and show your thought process for adapting to situations since that is how you build experience. Even tho you left out the fact you did all that electrical work forgetting you said you were going to fur out the wall so all those boxes will need to be remounted and wire lengths adjusted! 😎

Loved watching this. You're knowledge and experience is completely obvious but it is the honest way you deal with the setbacks that really impressed me. As a retired millwright I know, we all do it and the true measure of a tradesman is not just how the job is planned but how it is executed to successful completion while overcoming the mistakes and unseen challenges. Much respect.

Been watching this dude for yrs as renovate my home. Helped me out countless times. Other channels are good too but this guy is from a climate similar to mine. Building a deck in Northern Ontario is so much different than Texas for example. On top of that hes likeable. Even with the odd cheesy joke. Lol

How long after did the stainless steel pinch crimps failed ? Just installed a new line for washing machine and used those vs the copper rings.

Perfect timing!!

I use C-spanners for the 1/2” and 3/4” box fittings (Canadian tire sells them). Piece of cake to tighten them without having to use a hammer and punch.

Those Saniflo pumps are lifesavers *in the right situation*. As someone that has had to troubleshoot and replace parts inside of one, it is worth quite a bit of money, trouble and time to avoid using them. Worst thing (emptying the Saniflow) I have ever done in my life.

You make it look SO simple 😁 I wish 😅 have that magic ✨✨✨😁😅

take time to at least paint he area so it is bright. laundry can be a lot of work in a dark space.

Man, I'm happy to live in Europe (Netherlands to be exact). Our code is so much better / easier while at the same time safer. We put our wire in a pvc pipe and we're done. Anything is prepared for 16A (230V) breakers so I can unplug my dryer and misuse the plug for my phone charger.

@ 46 minutes and 10 seconds, those words spoke to me. I have been learning and doing my own renovations to the disapproval of everyone around me. One question though, why do the stainless steel cinch pex fittings fail more than the copper crimps?

My flipping vent is going into the garage. Hope this helps, about to find out.

Minor recommendation, remove the price stickers from the plumbing if it is at any connection. While rare, it can interfere with the solvent making a water-tight bond.

Jeff, since you opened up the ceiling, why not run the wire through the joists instead of tacked under them? You seem to have room now to drill the holes. Would prevent you from having to build a box.

Careful, Ontario building code doesn't usually allow ABS pipe to be used under pressure, which in this case would be! An often missed requirement. Even sump pumps I inspect always have ABS piping, admittedly I never blinked an eye until it was brought up with coworkers.

A dryer, like an electric oven, draws a huge amount of power in comparison to the other appliances. Thus the components of the circuit are more robust.

New code is 2 inch for laundry drain

Hi Jeff. In the UK the majority of DWV is outside of the home, attached to the side of the house. either cast Iron (old) or PVC (new). Plus We don't have the risk of freezing in the discharge pipes as our temps don't hit the same as we have in The Great White North. Most places don't allow ABS as it was made from recycled crap and subject to UV light. In our Province in Canada you cannot use PVC (Go figure?!) as the code is outdated. And electrical is 220v in the UK so getting zapped really hurts a lot more, don't ask me how I know this :-) just trust me. I can tell the tale if you really wanna know? Personally, I like having the 110v system in North America, with the advent of LED lights and low voltage electronic devices the lights no longer dim every time your run the kettle and the TV during Stanley Cup advertising break. Canada, a country based on Metric which sells lumber in feet and Diesel in liters. As opposed to the UK which was until recently part of the European Trade Union that sells lumber in mm (but everyone knows what you are asking for) and diesel in Gallons....

ran plenty of plumbing in last 10 years, never had a problem with pinch clamps.

Why didn't you use 2" for the drain out the box? Most codes require it, and that is why the box is made for a 2" pvc glue connection.

In the city...I live outside in the country...where I live you must use copper for water...no pex allowed. If you use a metal electric box all electric wiring has to be inside conduit. On sewage/drainage you have to run a vent line up and out of either the attic or thru the roof...cheater air valves not allowed. Yeah. They're sticklers to things is outrageous. In the country out here...no building codes or inspectors to deal with. I still follow the old rules...do it right even if it costs more. I also still do all my electric boxes out of the thicker blue or black plastic except a junction box which is metal, with the little black plastic nut end things that when you tighten presses down against the wire stuck in the holes my wires come in thru, wires soldered, wire nuts on the ends, wrap a little tape, and covered...just to be sure. PVC for cold water, CPVC for hot. edit...forgot to mention in the city they don't allow wall plugs and switches to use the cheater push in holes. You have to wrap the screw, and the 3rd ground has to be up...don't know why because it doesn't really matter. And no 14 gauge wiring allowed. 12 gauge is minimum on 10 to 15 amp circuits, 10 for 20 to 25 amp, 8 on 30 amp...literally 1 step larger for each. Yep. They are weird.

As I just learned all this from doing mine, it would have been worthwhile to mention standpipe and p trap length and height requirements for the washer drain line. Thanks for the great video as always

@@TwilightxKnight13 yes, basically what I learned is that the p-trap has a height requirement that it has to be installed above the floor level, and that it must be between 6-18 inches above the floor. The standpipe itself (after the joint of the p-trap) needs to be between 18-42 inches. If the stand pipe is too long, I learned that the drainage can cause excess sloughing of drainage out of the P-trap resulting in an inneffecive water seal. If it's too short, you could overflow your drain line. In my state, it is a requirement that all drain lines for washing machines are now 2" diameter.

Thanks for this informational video. I have question. I have one drain that I want to use for a kitchen sink and a clothes washer. I know it isn't recommended to have both on same drain, but how can I make this work. I have 2 inch pipe that runs approximately 2 or 3 feet then branches off to a 3 inch abs pipe.

how do you find out if you don’t know since you are not a plumber but was curious how easy adding hookups for the laundry room. thanks

I was using the rotozip & stripped wires in 2 boxes & cut the ear for the face plate off another box. I was using the drywall bit for the rotozip. Good thing the box was accessible behind the wall & there was plenty of extra wire slack. I have no idea how that happened other than a faulty bit.

3:48 Jeff have you found that the Copper Rings put way too much pressure on the fittings and cause issues down the road?

Can you glue the 3in to 2in together even thou it still had the sticker on the adapter?

Could you add the p trap of the washing machine into the main stack clean out drain?

Correct me if I’m wrong but I think you can only use the abs/pvc transition cement once in your entire home per code.

How do I move the laundry without the saniflow and how long and how far would I have to dig?

Jeffs the kinda guy that would like split neutrals *each phase uses 1 neutral instead of 2. It saves money on wire, just can't use it with in panel GFCI's.

I had an inspector do a yank test but it wasn't on anything he was there to inspect, then he kept itching his palms??

"Half inch pipe wrap" of yeah pool noodles is what came to mind

2” P-trap - 6 to 18 inches from the ground. Stand pipe 18-24 inches from the ptrap. Ptrap at least 2*pipe diameter up to 5’ to the vent, depending on vent diameter. Slope no more than 4 “ to 1’. I really don’t think gluing and cutting is the hard part of plumbing. It is making sure that your doing it to code and choosing the connections.

Jeff, I have asked this before, but cannot seem to find an answer. Do you use ABS vs PVC because of personal preference or local code? If personal preference, why do you prefer ABS?

I noticed the reducer had a bar code label on it. And then you brushed the solvent around that reducer including over the label. Does the solvent work with the paper label between the fittings?

Maybe it melts with the solvent but it still bothers me that it's in the way so I remove it first

I wonder why isn't standard do have a floor drain in every room where there are water supply. Specially Laundry, but i'm also thinking nearby a toilet, kitchen sink, any area where it's common to have water disaster. It would save all of them, wouldn't it? I'm thinking to move my Laundry, thanks you for your video. I'm also thinking to have a floor drain, what do you think about it

At 1:03, you show us a "washer box". What can I do to add a utility sink if my house already has a "washer box" in a finished garage wall?

Did you say you are furring out the wall 2”. Would it been easier to add your furring strips, then set all you rough in boxes? Thank you for sharing.

If you watch that section again, you will see it was shot after all the electrical was roughed in. So, he did all that work, and now needs to detach the boxes and reset them after furring out the wall.

Question on the waste water pump you need for this basement. Are these pumps reliable? I would imagine if it broke down or had any other issues, your drain water would back up, right?? My last question is ...do basements when being built with a bathroom or any other requirement for a drain have regular gravity sewer lines put in? Or do they also require pumps from the get go when new??

Saniflo pumps are reliable. But it they go, or the electric is off it will backup. Other option is to dig a pit, put in a macerator ejector pump to the sewer line. This is typical and would likely be used on new construction.

I am simply getting occupancy with the intention of doing a major renovation at a later date. I don't actually intend to use the laundry , just need it for the permit. in real practice I suggest the 2 pump version of this company. they work independently and have an alarm if needs service.

Does the solvent work over the stickers on the pipe?

I was wondering if you'd address the price of that wire! 6/3 here in Atlanta is $529 for 125 feet. Last big wiring item before the kitchen is done, so I'm hoping the price comes down! Looking forward to the Saniflo video, that's what we're using for the kitchen sink.

Washer hookups should have been put on left and dryer vent on right. Reason is that front load washers are all left-hinged and non-reversible. This won't matter for a top load washer, but it is a big mistake if homeowner wants a front load.

@21:54 - You are not allowed to use a aav for a pump system. (I think you’re running a separate vent for the pump though.) Aav should not be buried in wall at least needs an access panel, best to put it right under the sink. @23:45 - Most pumps require the circuit be a dedicated run from the panel (should be mentioned so people don’t screw this up) @28:51 - Staple every 5 ft not required where drywall is already installed. @44:21 - should have the specs in pump spec sheet , the The Saniflo 0.3 HP gray water pump requires a 15A 120V GFCI protected circuit. You should not be suggesting people use 14-2 for 240v systems. Only 15 amp 120v!
