    I've been fixing Miele vacuums for years. And the thing with Miele is that you always have to use the original Miele vacuüm bags. Any off brand bags will destroy the machine over time. Miele uses a 99,98% sealed system that only works with the original bags made for it. When people do use the original bags the machine can easily last up to 25 years. There are still lots of Miele 200 series and 300 series around the 200 series being from the 80's! And the 300 series from 1998 onwards

    Excellent job Dean You could also wash the brushes in isopropyl alcohol or electrical contact cleaner to get the gunk off, or even just use warm soapy water, once you make sure they're thoroughly dry afterwards.

    Judging by the amount of dust inside the housing, this thing must have been through years of wrong filter bags (not sealing properly) and/or missing filters. There sure is some dust to be expected, but not that much. That's why I have bagless vacuums, because I don't have to worry about finding the right bag. The liquid damage was only the tip of the iceberg for this poor Miele. Nice to see it working again, I hope that the owner will buy fitting bags and a set of new filters.

    Some time ago I had an Miele vaccum for the 90s at our local Repair Cafè. Same amount of dust. The old lady throwed the motor filter out after he was dirty and never put one back again inside. Motor completely clogged with dust.

    @@SparkcatcherFox I did not know that, but it makes sense. I've never seen that, or I just forgot, as I've been using bagless vacuums for decades now, and the only remaining bagged vacuum is my Kärcher WD5 wet-dry shop vac. Here, you have to buy the filter separately, though.

    Dean, I’ve done dozens of those repairs, and you were a hell of a lot faster than my first one! Note there’s a bag holder missing. Also, the new front (commutator end) bearing won’t be seated securely in the front cover of the motor. They use a setting compound or something during assembly, it comes out attached to the old bearing. I use a single wrap of cellotape around the new bearing to seat it.

  • @avtechnz

    @avtechnz

    Yes without the bag holder it will soon be relying on the pre-motor filter to keep the dust out of the motor. In my experience the bag holder is a weakness with these and is often misused allowing dust to get into the bag area. Bagless vacs are okay for wooden floors but not a good idea if you have carpet. The bag is an extra filter for fine dust and saves the motor as the bag is a lot finer than the pre-motor filter. The Delonghi bagged vacs had a nice two stage pre-motor filter which was great at protecting the motor.
