I think you need to add Calvin Harris. A lot of people missed the headphones that Chad wore in Anti Hero, and the tropical shirt. That was Calvin Harris attire. The first two letters of Chad is CH, for Calvin Harris. Chad was the son who returned from Ibiza, and profited off his mom’s name. Chad is Calvin Harris, just like Kimber is Kim Kardashian. Notice the recording phone.

There's a reason why I can respect Jake, even if I don't like him. He has been gracious enough to let her be an artist and tell her version of events (All Too Well, etc) and hasn't thrown a bitch fit about it. The Mayer of that sad empty town on the other hand--nothing will ever be as funny or sad as his reaction to Dear John. I don't agree with the death threats, but I agree with the anger. He should have known that she would write a song about him. Taylor Swift is more than allowed to be angry because even though she was legally and technically an adult when she dated him at 19, she was still a naive girl who wanted a Love Story that like a fairy tale. I've always said that Dear John is her angriest song, but I think Would've Could've, Should've has taken that spot and knocked Dear John to number two (Although I think Dear John is still her best written song she's ever released). There's no way any of the lyrics on Dear John can compete with a line like 'give me back my girlhood, it was mine first'.

It blows my mind when the people she dates say "don't write songs about me." That is the risk they take when dating any singer. People can't expect singers to never write about personal experiences. A lot of singers sing about personal things, it seems Taylor fans try to figure it out more. Also, him getting angry about shows how much worse that relationship was compared to Jake.

Same I love the great war, I feel like the fandom doesn't appreciate that much. To me this song sounds very Taylor, not out there and experimental but in a purely natural reflective state. The analogies and imagery are just spot on. It paints such a beautiful story. I feel like when you see other happy couples sometimes you assume that their relationship is perfect, but nothing ever is. As much and Taylor and Joe are great matches for each other, they've also had their struggles and overcoming those obstacles made them stronger in the end. I think this song is super romantic and I'm a sucker for a good romance story. The melody and production are also incredible. Dessner produced it so well. Also the BRIDGE. Absolutely stunning, I love how she sings betrayed. Sounds heavenly

I love them both so much that I thought they would be perfect for each other (both are god-level songwriters plus John is a monster on guitar and their voices go so well together) or maybe let things go and make music again together. I believe both of them have since moved on and I'm so happy for Taylor finding love. I think John's still single but he seems to be OK with that. I just hope people stop attacking him or Jake or Calvin all of Taylor's other exes because they've moved on and are living their lives (hopefully) peacefully now. Loving Midnights! Which are completely valid of course. However, I do think that some Swifties take them as the one and only truth and use that as a weapon to attack her exes. I think it goes a bit too far sometimes. For example when they bullied JM the day he joined tiktok. It's been over a decade. John seems to have really bettered himself. He's allowed to be on tiktok and still have a carreer. He's one of the few celebrities that actually admitted his wrongdoings and worked on himself. If anything, that should serve as an example.

I have a feeling that some of the songs that were made into bonus/3 am tracks were to avoid controversy. If you look at the charts, it's pretty clear that majority of the public clicked off after Mastermind. Can you imagine the uproar if they heard High Infidelity, for instance (confirming rumors that she cheated on Calvin)? Also, besides editing, I think Jack also tends to distort vocals in a way that distracts from Taylor's lyricism.

from all her previous songs about calvin i dont think she actively (like physically) cheated on him but she had already emotionally moved on from the relationship before it ended. she had fallen out of love with him because he hadn’t treated her the way she deserved. and she was already falling for joe and then for some reason couldn’t get with him at that time so she rebounded with tom. and maybe she feels like that was infidelity because she emotionally “cheated” before breaking up with calvin.

@@rupsa9432 ^^this. i think this is why the situation is complex and layered for her anyway, since she’s so against cheating but sort of did so emotionally with calvin. so she sort of did cheat yet sort of didn’t, and that’s where the reflecting part comes in since she was still pondering over that, hence the song and it being included as a 3am track on album about losing sleep over one’s past.

@@jimbob2427 I don't actually think any of her songs on midnights are about one person or "muse" as many of them seem to refer to multiple albums. I also think the situation described in high infidelity is a complex situation even if it is about cheating, with it being the only "way out" of the relationship (also something expressed in songs like ivy or tolerate it). But when I wrote this the dominant opinion was that it's about her cheating on calvin, and i feel like if that was picked up by media, it could cause havoc. being a 3 am surprise drop, it went relatively unnoticed

Labyrinth is one of my faves 😭 I think age and experience matters when relating to music though, and as a 30 year old who has been married since 21 and has two kids, I’ve had some life experience. I’ve dealt with trauma and abuse, and when I met my husband romance and falling in love were the last things on my mind. I had just been broken up with by someone I thought I was going to marry…he left me and married my best friend. I felt so betrayed and bitter and broken, and then here comes Lee (my husband). And all I could think was “I didn’t think I could ever love anyone again, what kind of magic is this?” And that’s what Labyrinth is all about. The fear of falling in love after years and years of pain and abuse in “love.” And the purity of letting go and feeling safe with someone new. It’s a gorgeous song, and I’d definitely put it towards the top of the album for me. Vigilante Shit is towards the bottom for me, because I’ve outgrown that mindset. I think having kids (mine both have special needs) does that to you. I don’t have the energy to expend on revenge, I use all of my energy to love on the people who love me. Sorry for my rant 😅 That’s the beauty in music though, everyone relates to something different and I’m glad there’s such a range within this album and the 3 am edition!

Reactions like this are why I love your content so much! You aren't afraid to be a realist and say things exactly as you see, hear and feel them. I also love that you sometimes have opinions that I don't agree with because it gives me another perspective to compare with my own so I can really dive into my thoughts on certain choices that Taylor makes in her songwriting. For example, your opinion about the line in Paris about shade being embarrassing. I can totally see where you're coming from as a listener but I also look at it from a writer's perspective and I think it really matches the excitable, giddy and innocently girlish theme that the song represents and that makes me not hate it. Keep the realist content coming please and never stop being you! I respect the hell out of you and your perspective. 💜

i have drafted several unposted comments on this and your OG midnights reaction video and have whittled it down to this lol. i had so many ideas to share back because you are so wonderful at collecting and sharing your brilliantly worded analyses and canonizing of tswift -- so thanks yet again for inviting us to join you on this chaotic journey with you! BLUF to this video /with tie backs to general midnights reactions: i was very disappointed in the entire 3am edition line up at first listen - vehemently against all of them! BUT at second listen, totally changed my opinion. I love of them tbh but had to listen through a different perspective than the initial midnights ear explosion. bigger than the sky was clarification of labyrinth for me -- spoke to me about miscarriage, infertility or the like. and the heartbeats effect in labyrinth? reminded me of the absolute nightmare parallel of wildest dreams heartbeats. also could tie to the starved my body/bloodsoaked gown in "you're on your own, kid." could've would've should've made me cry in the grocery store. i could do without the great war honestly but it's the most realistic picture of her adult, imperfect relationship with joe and makes me appreciate whatever vows they've made to each other, formally or informally - which brings me to how "sweet nothings" also made me weep at the utter softness confessed in it and portrayed by it and i am really honored she shared that snippet of her life with us, and that it was co written of course by william bowery. OG swiftie here, former journo/professional media relations fan here who also observes, studies and is enraptured by the twsift universe/canon like you -- i am FLOORED at how utterly honest this album is and how vulnerable she has made herself. i am 33, a fellow 1989er and am thrilled to have been living and growing into my adult life at the same time taylor has been -- and that she used this album to share those honest, adult, human experiences and emotions with us, yet again, and this time - in so much depth and awareness. i am utterly overwhelmed and feel like a different person than i was pre-midnights. so much to soak in. thanks for your service, swiftologist.

3:07 It's crazy how some people can't take opinions different than theirs I know that sometimes we agree 100% on the same songs, and other times you're destroying my favourites 😭 But it helps being self critical and also see the situation from a total different pov Even with Taylor, I think you're one of the rare swifties that I saw who actually portrayed her as the anti-hero she is, with all her imperfections and complexity So thanks for that ! I don't have any bonus tracks on my top 5 of midnight, but they're really great songs for bonus, and 7 bonus tracks like thanks tay (Special thanks to high infedelity's lyrics with my birthday in it) That's really cool to see that she feels comfortable sharing even more of her creativity with us ! "The great war" is probably my favourite, because it felt that for one time, she had a big fight with her lover but she overcame it It shows her growth and also that she has a partner who's understanding enough of her past and trust issues And that the best relationships are not just lovey dovey and sparkling, but also build on overcoming obstacles together 🤍

Do you think she was so powerfully reflective on her experience with John Mayer on this album because at the time of its release she was the same age that John Mayer was when they dated? Like, she’s seeing the whole relationship & subsequent fallout from adult eyes and realizing it’s so much more effed up than maybe she ever realized at the time.

i took BTTWS as her mourning the loss of who she could've/would've/should've become had she not dated John Mayer also, "sexy baby" is a reference to a scene in a show but also can be commentary on the hyper-sexualization of youth. "Hey kids, spelling is fun" is a fun lyric!! imagine shouting that in a concert setting?? an immaculate vibe and it sounds So Weird when that part isn't in the song! "I mean under where a tree has grown" is also fun! the song is meant to be a silly bop and it totally delivered, it's not my favorite lyric she's ever written but it's still really fun and not meant to be so serious!

Tracks are fluctuating on my favorite list after a few listens. Midnight Rain and Maroon still top it while Anti-Hero is at the bottom. The production is a bit of a vibe, though still doesn't quite reach a certain height for me, feels lackluster. Her vocals are the best part of the album. Most songs fall in the middle/meh range. This is mainly due to the lyrical content. My preconceived thoughts of the album played a part in this. Before the album released she described it as 13 sleepless nights of twisting in self-made cages, worry of making life-altering mistakes, terrors and sweet dreams, facing demons, pacing floors, and through it all finding oneself. I had hoped that she was going to unveil new things about her at pivotal moments in her life. Instead it is new perspectives on previously covered topics. I knew this was going to be likely since she was rerecording over a decades worth of songs. The song to cover familiar ground the best is hands down Would've Could've Should've. Everything else is better covered in a different song, multiple songs, or whole albums. I think I expected her to reconcile with who she is to herself more than who she is in relation to the men throughout her life. I'll stop because I could go on and I'm annoying myself

With Aaron she mostly writes to track which does give her confines and I think brings out something special in her because the music causes her to feel emotions (which is apparent in Long Pond when she describes the feelings she feels when she hears the music versus just doing 100% of the song which she basically does with Jack).
