full watch-a-long reaction:
When the credits started to roll while Erin was still screaming... I don't remember when was the last time a tv show made me feel that way. I was speechless.
“I did my best”😭😭😭
Bev's ability to have a bible quote for absolutely every situation is uncanny. She's an absolute master at twisting the words she supposedly heeds to fit whatever she needs at the moment.
The contrast between the calm he was experiencing and the absolute horror she was experiencing messed me up. I had to take a break for a few days before I could continue with the show.
This episode confirmed it for me. Mike Flanagan likes to emotionally destroy us with his 5th episodes. It's INTENTIONAL.
Props to Riley, he didn’t feed off anyone. 😢
Is so haunting how Erin screams were still heard after the credits and the screen went dark.
It's heartbreaking when you realize Riley has been dreaming about his death this whole time.
As a recovering alcoholic Riley listened to his Addictive Voice and concluded there was only one way to silence it.
The ending of this episode traumatized me.
I love the portrayal of gods forgiveness with the girl that he killed being the one to take him home.
kate siegel would have so many awards if people took the horror genre seriously. this series alone. that raw, naked scream. the monologue from last episode. the finale. such rich and wrenching performances. her acting has made me physically sob on so many occasions.
Erin’s scream wasn’t the classic “movie scream” we’re accustomed to.
Sturge: cuts his arm open VOLUNTARILY like it's nothing
That ending. "I did my best." Seeing his unfortunate victim at the end. Making the monstrous impression on Erin that he needed to make. Fuck Mike Flanagan for always giving you such horrifying, emotional, tragic, heart-wrenching finale scenes.
Her screams... she's so good!
"He didn't fall for their shit" was a spot-on observation.
I feel like what you said about Bev being able to pull up a quote from scripture to justify and support whatever situation arises, even when it’s absolutely horrible in actuality, is one big theme/lesson Flanagan was going for- that religion can be (and has been) used to justify atrocities, if you’re not carefully listening.
What I liked about this Episode was that the charcters were so clearly defined that you knew what Riley's plan was the moment he rowed Erin out to sea.
