Midlands Mall-Omni Center, the Forgotten Mall.
Ойын-сауық
This is a walk-through video of the former Midlands Mall, now Omni Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa. I have included pics from the Malls former glory days and have also pointed out locations of former stores where I could remember them. I have many fond memories of this mall and hope others do to.
I make no claim to the old pics of the mall and give much credit to the people who have taken them.

Best conversation pit! Thanks for sharing... I miss malls like this!
I just cried while watching this. Used to spend the weekends here with my grandma.

This video made me cry too. We used to shop there A LOT. We lived in Western Iowa and this mall was the closest shopping center for us. I have such fond memories of meeting our Mom under the colorful clock in the atrium. Then we'd all go to Bishops Buffet to eat before driving home. :(
Thanks for making this video i enjoyed it very much
My childhood mall. Like you, I have fond memories of the place, and it was a pretty attractively designed mall, really. Lots of nice touches.
Unfortunately I was too young to experience the Midlands Mall before it was converted. I used to love walking around the Omni Center before and after seeing a movie there. At the time I didn't understand why there wasn't places to eat and shop at. You did a great job of capturing the simple beauty this mall still has.
There was never a Spencer's Gifts at Midlands Mall. It was a place called "Thingsville" which was similar.
Just to fill in a little bit about this. There was an Arcade at one point and an Orange Julius at one point. My Dad had taken me to the Arcade on my 5th or 6th Birthday. The sad thing is that the Mall go a face lift around late 80's but then closed. Part of it was that the Mall of Bluffs had taken a lot of Businesses from it including the Kay Bee Toy Store. I don't remember a Kay Bee being in MM, but it might have been there before we moved to Council Bluffs in 86. The Mall was practically done when we had moved there and I think it was from that point on that MM started losing shops. I do remember eating at Bishops a couple of times though with my folks.

This is totally random, but do you remember if there was Sallye's Town & Country Women's Shop or a Crayne Candy Shop here?? Thanks so much!

There was a KB at MM, from what I've heard. I only knew the MoTB one and I miss it dearly :(

I remember that Orange Julius well. And the pit with the awesome clock hanging above it. Before the Machine Shop arcade was there, I believe there was an arcade in the late 1970s (maybe when the mall opened up in '76?) called Game Gallery. Kinda gave the pinball & video game "heads" in C.B. a place to go to since Gizmo's (which opened in '75) in the Westroads was too far away. And this is going off topic, but I also remember a small building that housed a video game arcade about a block east of Thomas Jefferson High School back around 1981-1982. Anyone remember the name of THAT place?
Good video. Thanks for filming.
Spencer’s was never in Midland Mall. Thingsville was in Midlands Mall. Also opened one in Mall of the Bluffs when that mall was built.
My parents lived in Missouri Valley in the mid 70's, I wonder if they ever shopped there. I don't ever remember going there when we went back to visit friends of theirs in the area. Have they turned it into an office building by chance?
