We ended up providing free "Food" in 1st Class, (Im the Train Manager in the film 15 minutes in) Bar the breakfasts the food was terrible ( though I was a Senior Conductor My background was in The Hospitality Industry on the Food Service Side.

April 1996 - November 2007: Midland Mainline. Eleven Great Years.

They still exist, but the whole business has been re branded as East Midlands Trains, following the collapse of Central Trains in November 2007.

I miss National Express Midland Mainline. It was the first privatised railway operator, as such as: GNER, Midland Mainline, Virgin (Cross Country and West Coast), Central Trains, Silverlink, Connex (Thameslink, Southern, etc.), SPL, Arriva, Stagecoach (Southwest Trains and Virgin), First (Great Western Railway, Northwestern, Hull, etc.), and so-fourth; that we all remember them like yesteryear and worship them till’ the day that we all die.

This video shows how few people must have been using the railways back then, these days you can barely fit in the coaches during peak periods. Can’t see them having the space to segregate a standard coach for “an office” on any of today’s services in the mornings

2022: Pick a seat, any seat. The bottom has fallen out of the railway since Covid-19.

@@devon896 You ain't kidding. Train crew saw their wages quadruple. Of course, the passenger is paying through the nose for their journey, but hey! Who cares? As long as the shareholders are getting a big fat dividend...

@@BibtheBoulder The shareholders got hardly anything, the majority of the money went back to the franchise holder aka the government.

I strongly suspect time will view the period of operation by MML as halcyon days for the midland mainline.

3:00 burts giving it rocks at 100mph+ while they are trying to have conversation and hanging on for dear life.

I used to love traveling on midland mainline but in 2004 when they killed Bambi (oh dear) with that blue livery it was horrible. I wonder if I can turn some heads from the staff when I travel on a meridian on the 17th of April by wearing my MML Bambi beanie whilst traveling up to Leicester on EMR Intercity.
