Middle Palisade: Reaching California's 14er | Sierra Nevada Mountains
Middle Palisade is a 14,018 foot peak in the central Sierra Nevada mountain range in the U.S. state of California. It is a fourteener, and lies on the Sierra Crest as part of the Palisades group, a group of prominent Sierra Nevada mountain summits that includes multiple other fourteeners, approximately 12 miles southwest of the town of Big Pine. Middle Palisade is the twelfth highest peak in California.
This was a backpacking effort in which I hiked up to Finger Lake on June 17th, 2024 to spend the night, then ascended a peak and returned to the car the following day.
Total distance: 14 miles
Total vert: 7,600 feet
Device: Coros Vertix 2

Thanks for posting this. It brought back a memory and an idea I had long ago. Interesting to see that side of the Palisade Crest in a video. I am used to Third Lake & Temple Crag and the other lakes up to the glacier and beyond to Agassiz. I have a mental note to try the other side: The yellow Brick Road on Gayley, Middle Pal, Normal Clyde. One day...Cheers!
Really spectacular summit views.
Amazing climb and video, respect from the UK

Thank you! I was so grateful to capture the experience in a way that others can share. I'm not always in an expressive mood when I'm doing this stuff. Haha.
Great video. I want to make it up to that area (or Little Lakes, Thousand Lakes etc) this year. Those climbs are crazy. I'll climb them vicariously through your videos while I stay on the nicely packed trails.

Ha! All beautiful areas with so many excellent trail networks. As long as we're both getting out there, we're both beating everyone on the couch!
Really enjoying your videos. Your enthusiasm for the beauty of the Sierra and your positivity are contagious! As someone with aspirations to complete the California 14ers (and with a couple in the bag already), your videos are super informative and very well shot. I can’t imagine the work it takes to set up some of the shots you take. Thank you for taking the time to share these great videos with us…look forward to more. Cheers 🍻

This comment means a lot because although filming this trek went impeccably, there are some outings that go very awry and I have to pivot, which can be very daunting. Fortunately, I'm getting better at navigating this stuff with every effort, but there is absolutely a bit of a learning curve. Thanks a lot.
Love it all

Thank you for watching, pops!
Incredible! Would love to do that someday. I went up to finger lake last year around now. That forest was super buggy!!😂. Such awesome country, though.

I could totally see that area getting bad with the bugs. Glad I was able to get out bite-free.
Great POV video. That climb looked sweet.

Thanks. It was really fulfilling to try something new and challenging as opposed to doing the same route I'd done before. And yes, it was totally sweeet.
Good video Miroki

Ngl This invite makes me a little nervous. Haha. Haven't done anything 5th class yet.
So there is no bergschrund to jump right now? The snow goes all the way to the rock? Let me know as I have a friend I’d like to take up and not have to jump as I did years ago.

No jump! I did eye the bergschrund on the northern glacier, but not where I went up.
