Middle East at Risk of Devastating Full-Scale Conflict: UN Chief | Security Council | United Nations
Briefing by António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, on the danger of escalation in the Middle East during the 9602nd meeting of the Security Council.
The people of the Middle East are facing a “real danger of a devastating full-scale conflict,” António Guterres said today (14 Apr), urging “maximum restraint” across a region “on the brink”, hours after Iran launched attack drones and missiles against Israel overnight Saturday.
The Secretary-General told delegates at the opening of an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council that “now is the time to defuse and de-escalate.”
Guterres said, “the Charter of the United Nations prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations. Furthermore, the principle of inviolability of diplomatic and consular premises and personnel must be respected in all cases in accordance with international law, as I stated when condemning the 1 April attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus.”
According to the latest reports, Iran launched hundreds of drones and missiles from its territory toward Israel, with most intercepted. Several missiles reportedly struck within Israeli territory, one of which damaged an Israeli military facility in the south of the country.
The Secretary-General stressed that it was “vital to avoid any action that could lead to major military confrontations on multiple fronts in the Middle East.”
Civilians, he said, “are already bearing the brunt and paying the highest price. And we have a shared responsibility to actively engage all parties concerned to prevent further escalation.”

What's the issue? Iran has already concluded their retaliation. They made it clear. What part of that statement isn't understood? No one dead. Hospitals and schools still standing. Civilians shown mercy. IOF Military shown might. This meeting means nothing. Iran understands rules of engagement according to western laws. The other only democratic country in the region doesn't.

But Alisha how were civilians shown mercy? It’s as if I were to shoot at you but you are wearing a bulletproof vest, and you don’t get hurt. It would still be considered an act of aggression. Put that aside for a moment, Iran has financed and supported the destabilization and support for terrorist organizations throughout the Middle East. They’re looking to take the focus away from their own regime, which does not permit freedom of speech😢 democracy or freedom of expression. And they are building a nuclear weapon because they claim they don’t have enough energy? And there a country of 70% of secular people that are being run by 30% of religious people who believe that the Quran should run their lives? all I’m saying is I hope we can open up dialogue and discuss these matters going forward. Iran should not be supporting terror and destabilize the region. The region knows all too well. You could say Israel was acting in self-defense as Iran was using terror groups to attack them, although Israel still committed an act of war, Iran is also creating war in the region. They deny, yes, but they are lying, the whole region knows.
There is no chance between un and Israel both are same... I think secretary general got lot of money from israel for making this statements.

Nations of the world should be united to protect every nation--big or small from aggression. The world must form one superstate alliance.
The only civilian death reported was by the Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan. He said a Beduin child was killed, but nobody thought to ask whether her death was a result of defensive action by the State of Israel, or the successful hit on the military target selected by Iran. Since I have to guess at the answer, I will instead ask why a civilian child would be on a military compound?
Maybe It is time Antonio Guterres Secretary General to step down as he picks choices who is violating International Law and who is protecting their country.

The UN or the SG isn't picking here, they are calling to cease military actions, to talk and respect each other. Although respecting is going to take more time, the alternative would be large scale war which would be devastating (and illegal to international law too).

There is a resolution in place regarding suppressing certain permanent countries from invoking veto powers especially if they abuse the veto power. I believe it is called resolution 6? Anyways, despite its existence, the UN body has chosen not to invoke it even though several countries have insisted that it be invoked and in particular concerning the abuse of the US in this regard. Why? Likely because the UN is controlled by the US. Sad, but true.
