Mid February Shad Fishing on the Neuse River

My friend David and I made it out to the Neuse River last week to see if the shad had shown up yet. They're not quite thick in the rivers yet, but we still managed to find a few along with a nice slab crappie.

Good stuff! I just had a run in with a huge gator yesterday to try and get on some big crappie. Think they're still further up the river.
You eat the Shad?

No, I save them for catfish bait. Some people do like to eat the row and hard fry the shad to eat. I’m not one of those people 😂
