    Way to go, Camera Lady, great landscape pictures. We really enjoyed your information on how to use a polarizing filter correctly and make outstanding photos. Great video of you and Camera Lady too. We enjoy your videos.

    Nice lesson about polarizing lens. Side note. Since i was watching this video for the first time while i was running on a tread mill i was using close captioning. "there's a metal arc" .. i thought wow i was going to see something cosmic. Ending up being a Meadow Lark. What a hoot

    Great reminder. In addition, in most situations, the polarizer will give you a result that you can’t reproduce in post.

    Scotland has been on my bucket list for so long, but darn I’m going on a trip to Southern France in June. Please keep us informed of any future Scotland trips. 😊 Oh, I have the old-school polarizers and need to learn about these magnetic ones.

    Hey, no worries. France will be awesome! I'll be doing another scotland spring 2025, and that one is already filling up, so email me if you want to get signed up for that. I might also do another scotland trip for Nov for late fall landscapes. Also, if you haven't already, definitely sign up for my newsletter on my website, so you'll be first to get all the workshop info when I put them out.

  • @BrentHall

    @BrentHall

    @@rachelg7371 It will just depend on what you want. In the spring there will be more birds, and nice spring colors, with all the blooming gorse and flowers, and in fall there will be the moody fall colors, possibly the deer ruts, no bugs, and less people, but with colder weather. My spring workshop will be focused on the east coast, seabirds, castles, and seascapes. The fall workshop will be on the west coast and focused more on landscapes (unless we get lucky with the deer rut), but there's always the potential for some birding/wildlife on any Scotland trip of mine! Here's the link for my workshops, and there should be a pop up for the newsletter on there. www.hallofthewildstudios.com/workshops-1 You can also email me any time if you have questions or anything. I'm updating the workshops page right now for Scotland Nov 2024, spring 2025, New England Fall 2024, and NM & AZ private birding spring 2024 workshops.

    There are several magnetic filter conversion kits now being sold that are a much less expensive option as you can press old screw-in filters into service. When the light angle is unsuitable for the polariser, a graduated ND is a good substitute. I invariable shoot raw files instead of JPEGs and that usually gives latitude for increased contrast and saturation in the sky using a graduated mask in my raw file editor. However, loved the clear video. Maybe next time you shoot the video and let us see camera lady? 😂Subscribed and liked.

    She's been in videos here and there over the years, but it's really her call if/when she wants to be in them. I'm very happy with her filming everything though. It takes a lot of the workload off of me.

    You could try short videos. You’d have to plan and script them though. Personally I’m into sitting back with a coffee and coming along with you for all your thought processes. Shorts are good and there is an audience for them.

  • @BrentHall

    @BrentHall

    Yeah, I've thought about it, and I've even tried a few. There are some problems for me though. They take a bit of extra effort and very different mind-frame to make, and on top of that, they make me pretty much no adsense or money at all. The worst part though, is that even if they do well and get lots of views and even subscribers, none of those views or subs will translate to watching the long form content, so that will really only hurt my channel.

    I am a strong believer in the value of a circular polarizer filter, so long as it's a high quality glass (such as B+W, or my fav Breakthrough Photography). However, I tend to lean towards the camp that the main use is for nuetralizing reflections in water, glass and on leaves. The examples you show in this video as how it darkens up sky and mountains, etc. can in my opinion be done equally well in using the dehaze feature in Lightroom or other processing software. Your comments on this, or am I missing something?

  • @BrentHall

    @BrentHall

    No, you're absolutely right. In fact, I've made videos on how to mimic a cpl in post, but also, as you've noted, it can't mimic cutting through the glare and reflections, just the color saturation and dehazing. But maybe some peyote will have acpl on them and just want to get that stuff done in camera or don't know how to edit a much.
