Tired this recipe out of curiosity and was pleasantly surprised. The tomato paste gives it a sweeter taste than most curries so it does have a very "british" taste to it for the north Americans out there. Taste great, id give it a 4/5 stars but you have to use a sweet potato on the smaller side.

That was actually amazing, could you do some more microwave recipes please 🙏, sometimes you have guests in for dinner and cooking like this is a life saver 😊

Watching Jamie wrestle with the microwave is hysterical! He forgot to tell us how many watts his microwave has, however; I think 10 minutes would be too long for mine. Jacques Pépin is doing a similar series of super-economical dishes that don't require an oven.

i just made this today! it was pretty good, only flaw was, it could have done with a tad more curry powder, possibly 2 heaped teaspoons. i made this in Spain, and it wasnt anywhere near £1, spud cost me £1, onion, ginger, garlic, chick peas, spinach, tom puree, cost me about £2.50 now the rice was quite cheap, possibly about 30p. all in all about £4 !

Speechless...in both amazing and wierd way.

Just waiting for Uncle Rogers review on this one..

Made this today and was really happy with not only as a delicious option but as a cheap option! I managed to really reduce the cost by making this entirely out of my various housemates food, just a tip for anyone feeling the squeeze.

I now eating it and it works out perfectly, the Rice is on point. I used some different ingredients, cause i actual ill at home, like tomatoes, paprika shame on me baked beans....(we love them in germany) and some fresh mango. There are a lot of nice options in this receipe, cheers Jamie! Tim Mälzer and You influenced me as you startet your Shows on TV and good to See you all the years later going on.

I'm glad Jamie finally found some curry powder for his curries. I know there are no instructions in the back of the package but he needs to know the spices need to be tempered so they can release their aromatic oils. But most importantly I'm really happy that Jamie did not use his mango chuney with this one.

I have made a very very similar dish for many years only not in the microwave. This is a really cool thing to watch :)

I've never been one to cook with a microwave, I just use it to defrost or heat up my food 😄 but this looks good 🙂

Me too, I’m actually scared of cooking in it, but as everyone else I am looking for ways to waiste less energy to save on expenses… I wonder could I achieve save results in a slow cooker I’ve read it’s also using less energy than other kitchen equipment and I’m more comfortable to use it than a microwave… It’ll take me longer I know it’s a SLOWcooker but I don’t mind to wait as long as it’s delicious and not expensive on energy costs it’s worth the waiting! ❤

I used a heaped tablespoon of curry powder and it was even better.

Another option is to use butternut squash instead of sweet potato just add a pinch of sugar to bring out the natural sweetness

Normally, Asians tend to clean the rice to remove the impurities, and after, then cook the rice.

I would be inclined to start off the curry with cooking the curry powder with the oil first before adding everything else. It would probably only need about 20 seconds, to release its flavour and not have that powdery taste you can get with curries that aren’t tempered first. Did he say five veg? I only counted four. Mushrooms would be great added to this. Thanks Jamie. What wattage is the microwave you used so others can adjust the cooking time relative to their microwaves power?
