For diagnostic purposes, this was the most informative video of the lot!

would not recommend going anywhere near the high voltage cap unless you know for sure its discharged,these caps have an in built 10meg resistor that will discarge the cap slowly after microwave has been disconnected from mains,but if that in built 10meg resistor has failed which is rare but can happen then that cap will hold a deadly voltage that can kill so beware

Fantastic video! Short, concise and answered all my questions. I am aware of the high voltage. MW keeps blowing a fuse every few months. I am pretty sure one of these (3) components is going bad. This video helps me figure out which one. Thanks!

I have an LG Inverter Microwave. It is about 6-8 years old and quit working only a year after I bought it. Before it died it would completely power off with no signs of life. Hitting the side near the control panel or hitting the control panel itself with the palm of your hand would cause it to show power again, and you could then start it up and it would run perfectly for a while. It is now completely dead. Not even the light comes on when the door is open. I disconnected and tested all 3 microswitches and they all work correctly when the door opens and closes. I also checked the fuse and it is good. I pulled the control panel apart and saw nothing melted. My best guess is a solder joint on one of the two boards might be bad, but would that completely kill all power to everything, including the display and the light when the door was opened? (I know hitting on it was not the solution, and probably just made the problem worse.) I would not know how to check all the solder joints on the board. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you. What if it heats, but not as much as it should? Also, can any of these steps be skipped if lights and turntable are working?

Hey Steve u could make this a much safer operation if you cautioned people to discharge that high voltage capacitor before taking the reading, otherwise great video!

This capacitor has a resistor attached that discharges the capacitor automatically when you remove the voltage ( 4:30 )

Microwave starts, runs for about second. Light, turntable, magnetron all start. Then after a second shuts off. Display says XXXX for a few seconds and then 0. For a while it would do this intermittently, but now all the time so can't use. Possible problem?

Hi fred..ive got a ge microwave thats not heating...when i click start the fan turns on table turns..i hear a click relay but no hear normal humming sound anymore....i checks diode and is ok...i check door limit switches ok...what other part could be the issue?...the hv cap is not bulged on top

The only difference is that my fan starts and table turns whenever I close the door, and the only way I can stop it is to open the door.

no sorry..im assuming transformer or magnatron bad ...i never troubleshooted any further because i found another working microwave in trash that im now using...

Realy should have discharged the HV cap....

This was a nice video. Very informative, but I had trouble hearing the guy. His volume was low.

HOOKS STICKING OUT THE DOOR IS A DUMB IDEA! I assume the designer had a warped sense of humor and enjoyed thinking of how many people, removing scalding liquid from the oven, will be splattered when the vessel catches on the hooks.

not really the hooks are there to make sure when the door is closed then it will close the switches

by far this man's worst video (I have watched many others and liked them). There is no way to figure & understand how to fix one's MW by listening to his video. First, he uses an analog 1950s meter, then no precautions with the capacitor (unplugging from AC and hope the cap will discharge itself is a deadly assumption). Then flew by testing the capacitor and diode... of which I did not get anything out of. And the volume? Ayaya.... not a good video by any means!

Couldn't hear and who has an analog meter nowadays?

Even if you have a digital meter you will still see the numbers alter to the same patten as a spring / analogue meter

Doesn't matter Karen - digital or analog. Still provides the needed measurement. I guarantee you that microwave and all it's parts were developed with analog meters!
