Went from a PS5 to Xbox Series S 2 weeks ago and love it. and honestly can’t tell a difference with gameplay or graphics. Don’t know if I’m blind or there just isn’t that much difference and people are blowing it out of proportion. Idk I’m enjoying the Series S and have found a new appreciation for it and thats all that matters in the end.

Some games, especially those without ray tracing, will show not much difference in graphical quality alone on the Series S, but will almost always render at a lower native resolution and a lower framerate. It just depends on the games you play.

It's downgrade... The hardware is a down grade for a new gen system. It forces developers to hold back when building their games. It's not about how well it plays current games since they are held back and optimised for that hardware as well. I mean if you go from a PS5 to series S and see no difference then there really isn't much to say to you.

As a family man, I have to say X-box is great for a family. Bit of a long story, in 2021 we updated our old 50' HD TV to a 65" 4K TV and we got ourselves a Series S to go with it, while my oldest son (5 at the time) got our old X-Box One (a year one X-Box One that was all digital because the disk drive went out) and the old 50" TV. We where starting to game as a family, my wife in the living room on the Series S, me in my office on my X-Box One, and my son in his room on his X-Box One. Just this past Christmas we upgraded to the Series X for $399, so I took the Series S into my office. My son seeing the faster X-Box as he called it, wanted one of his own. So he saved up his allowance and birthday money to get his own Series S 1TB addition on sale for $319. That has all three of us gaming together for less then $1000 (just hardware), so as a family we are loving it. As a added bonus my youngest son (now 5) is getting into gaming some so he might end up with that same old X-Box One system in his room joining the rest of us in Halo, Monster Hunter, and yes even Bluey/Paw Portal because of game pass.

I host a home on vacation rental websites and I put a Series S in the living room for my guests to enjoy during their stay. Streaming subscriptions & Game Pass Ultimate. Can’t beat the price to value the Series S provides. The game pass subscription can be used on two different consoles so I bought a second console to test for quality. A 5 star experience for my guests is my number one priority so I make sure the games are enjoyable and being able to use a second console makes it convenient to “work” from home.

I’m 56 and for whatever reason I have never been able to do fps type games on a controller. Two sticks lead to frustration. But, there are a lot of games on Xbox that I do enjoy that don’t require that type of coordination and that led me to divert off my PC and buy a series S. It works well for me. I don’t have issues with visuals. DIV and BG3 play great. I dunno I’m tired of hearing about it. Series S has its place and a lot of people have bought one.

That was a large factor I mentioned when I was on the floor selling the consoles to people. They'd ask what the difference was and I'd have to clarify it. Basically, if they only wanted to add gaming to their existing setup, I recommended the S. If they already had the balls to the wall (at the time) TV and wanted gaming, or they were buying the whole kit and kaboodle at once, I'd rec the X. If one can play all the same games and the screen they're using can't show the difference, why pay the extra? These days it is a lot easier to buy a new TV with all the extras needed for full usage of the consoles, but a few years back, they were few and far between. That, and it was near impossible to get Xs into the store. Stock was a nightmare. So we tended to have a lot of Ss. So thankfully that variation probably helped smooth a lot of ruffled feathers over the Xs stock shortages.

Thanks to bots I purchased a Series S when I could actually get one at retail and I also have a high end pc, I could say these consoles are holding back gaming but maybe it's good that game developers have to make their games easier to be played on something like a rtx 2060 instead of forcing games that would take a RTX 4090 just to play the thing.

My TV is nice, but only goes to 60fps in 4K. I've hooked up the Series S and Series X to compare, and the S really does perform well. What's funny is that PC games work on such a wide range of systems, but developers have a hard time with two configurations for the XBox... I think it's more a capability issue with these programmers.

  • @SilentGamingShow

    @SilentGamingShow

    12 күн бұрын

The issue isn't just about developer capability, but rather the constraints imposed by the Xbox ecosystem. 1. Feature parity: Microsoft requires that games maintain feature parity between the Series S and X. This means developers can't simply remove features from the S version while keeping them on the X. Both versions must have the same core features, which can limit what developers can do with the more powerful X. 2. Hardware differences: The Series S has significantly weaker hardware compared to the X, especially in terms of GPU power. This makes it challenging to achieve the same performance and visual quality on both systems. 3. Console vs. PC development: It's easier to develop for a wide range of PC hardware because: a) PC games often have scalable settings that users can adjust based on their hardware. b) PC hardware is more open and flexible, allowing for easier optimization. c) Consoles have stricter certification processes and performance requirements. 4. How S holds X back: Because developers must ensure their games run well on the weaker Series S, they may have to limit certain aspects of the game (like graphical fidelity, world complexity, or physics simulations) to maintain acceptable performance on the S. This can prevent them from fully utilizing the X's superior hardware, as the core game design must accommodate the S's limitations. In summary, it's not just about programmer capability, but rather the specific challenges posed by developing for two fixed hardware configurations with significant power differences, while adhering to Microsoft's requirements for feature parity.

I would say most people are looking for 60fps 1080p, or 30fps 4k and not look like total ass when using the series S. If you're a video snob, and got an S, that's on you. Everything can (in what kind of form or state) run on anything with enough time and optimization. Thing is that it's an added cost for the developer. Will they think their effort will have a return on investment at a platform that is relative small compared to other platforms and where a lot of consumers don't buy games because of the rental service they use. So it not if it can run but how much it costs and if it's worth it for the developer.

So when Microsoft says they don't allow games to exclude features when delivering a game to their platform, does this come as a direct response to the Rockstar situation with GTAV? Remember, the launch for 360 was the same as Xbox One minus First Person mode, the extended Radio playlists and the visuals being quite different

XBOX Series S emulates XBOX (2005 era) games perfectly fine. I originally bought a Series S because of the chip shortage and Series X were too rare. I later purchased the Series X; and then another Series X a year later. $3 for Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on Xbox Marketplace (old XBOX360 Live marketplace), if you go to regular XBOX site, it's $15. My XBOX Series S is now my dedicated server as that game supports that (PC version doesn't have dedicated server). I still haven't had a chance to see if an original XBOX running disc version of Spinter Cell: CT can network (actually find a game) with the 9th gen XBOX's, but I don't see why not.

I suppose that's a round about way of saying I think digital only consoles suck and it saddens me that computers are dropping the disc drives. I think the thing holding us back isn't the Series S it's the last gen, when we went into next gen the companies were trying to focus on the ability to use old tech and be kept in the loop longer, which is great it just didn't transfer properly as hardware limitations of previous gen I argue the one X would have probably been okish but anything below that wasn't going to happen, they couldn't focus on streaming as the technology isn't there in some countries, dev studios have only really started to focus on pure next gen games and that has hurt next gen badly we've not really seen many new decent games and those that have been good haven't really been pushing next gen consoles, I'm scared as I really don't think we'll see anything decent on the current gen consoles before the next consoles come out and I'm scared I've wasted £500 and not be able to get much back from that in order to buy the next console even know I have the series X.

I am running a Xbox Series S on 4K UHD resolution, HDR10. On a 3840X2160 screen. When I turn on Visual Mode vs Performance mode for Xbox series games I see a noticeable difference in what can be shown. Now of course this is 1440p upscale to 4k. I don't have native 4k running with Ray tracing with an output of 1800p on Xbox Series X to a 2160 display. New to all this T.V. and game spec stuff so correct me if I am wrong. I did take pictures of The Division 2 in 1080p resolution and then 2160p upscale to 4k through Series S and it changes alot with the polygrams, the way items and models look, lighting, what's allowed through coloration. Honesty thinking about upgrading to Series X so I can run native 4k at 120hz instead of upscaled 4k at 60hz There's a massive difference in what the game will show. Plus running Elden ring in quality mode vs performance mode also changes alot of what you see. Ether way this t.v. for me is a huge upgrade in quality compared to the 1080p 26 inch screen I was using. Which now I'm using a 43 inch screen and would love maxed graphics for The First Decedant on the Series X which comes out next week. Or even Gears if War 6. But paying $500 I can't afford that for probaly 2 more months.

I think the real problem is lazy programming. I remember when starfield first came out and they were having a hard time getting 60 frames per second on a rtx4090 due to sloppy code. Developers need to just get off their ass and fix s*** and stop blaming Xbox series s.

I got my Series S a little after release, preowned, for just under £200. The Series X was like gold dust then; I never upgraded my Xbox One beyond the launch model and as I said, the Series S was a great price, so I went with it. During the pandemic, it served my gaming needs very well. With lockdowns, it was fantastic as a media unit too. I have since bought a Series X, but I still use the S frequently. I don't see why it gets the hate it does. Holding back gaming? If developers optimized their games properly from the start, rather than releasing a product riddled with bugs and glitches and charging folks £70+, they might see fewer issues overall.

The Series S isn't all that bad i had one and tested it on high medium and low quality. It runs really well in 1440p at 120FPS and also 1080p at 120FPS some games do run best at 60FPS but it isn't that bad. However if you try and force the console to go 4K Ultra in 120FPS you will find a lot of FPS drops and decreased high quality because it can't run that level quality. It is a great small console especially if you just want to jump on and game with friends, but for best high quality detail and FPS Series X is key. I have been considering on getting a Series S for my lounge to jam with friends on split screen at 1080p at 120FPS, it works best on this setting in my opinion.

I think Series S is the best thing Xbox has done for console gaming. One problem may be simultaneous release, because a Switch version of AAA games takes extra time to optimise. Once the next Switch has a solid install base I don't think it will be a problem. Why it's a problem now shouldn't be the fault of Series S, as I'm sure lower spec PCs are catered for, and the Steam Deck should be. (Oh, except maybe the RAM is an issue.)
