Microsoft Switched To Google. But They're The Real Winners.
Microsoft is not who they used be. Up until the 2010s, they had a massive ego and pride that they were the absolute best company in the world and that they were the only company that consumers should ever choose. This led them to try to break into virtually every tech sector you can think of whether that be browsers or smartphones. But, in most of these ventures, Microsoft got utterly humiliated and destroyed. Not to mention, people had a growingly negative opinion of everything Microsoft. You can’t blame Microsoft too much as virtually every tech company tries to go down this same path whether we’re talking about Google or Apple, but the same cannot be said about the new Microsoft. Instead of trying to be the main player in every single sector, Microsoft has switched their focus to simply helping the winner in each sector. With servers, they embraced Linux, with browsers, they embraced Google, and now with search engines, they’re embracing ChatGPT. While this background role isn’t nearly as lucrative as controlling the whole space itself, this strategy is likely way more sustainable. Not to mention, this approach is already reflecting in their market cap. In late 2021, Microsoft briefly overtook Apple to become the world’s largest company. Looking forward, Microsoft may end up holding this position for a much longer period of time. This video explains the radical changes that are apparent across Microsoft and why they’re likely the strongest tech company out there.

Google say that they are hoping to support small developers with chromium but I'd say it has much more to do with avoiding anti-trust lawsuits. There has been a lot of talk about breaking up Google's near-monopoly on search and about their anti-competitive practices. Google making chromium open source makes it far harder for this conviction to get through given they are actively supporting their competition while also making that competition reliant on google for updates.

Open source has its upsides, but also pitfalls. It might seem scummy to throw out a competing browser standard and use your competitors' free of charge. But open source was how Google was able to surpass Windows and challenge iOS in the mobile phone race, but now the empire strikes back for the desktop. I’ve been amazed with XBOX Game Pass as well. The first time I started using it, I immediately noticed the “Friends”-interface, interactivity and connectivity that I really enjoyed back in the days. Adding cross platform availability and great games (which don’t play them very long- but if I do, they offer in-game purchases as well. This is perfect). Also, Teams has played a huge part a while ago. Recently I came back and they implemented a lot more features but kept the interface and ease of use the same. Overall, I feel like Microsoft is sticking to certain features and design which consumers do appreciate. Even if these may be small and unnoticeable for a few. Yet, it feels refreshing. I’d love to see Microsoft is embracing new technologies as they are and trying to support them rather than taking them over. Also, my compliments for this video. Your point of view has been given very clearly and you gave some insightful developments and the contradictories of their past. Thanks!

Microsoft lost bad and has been better for it since. What I like from Microsoft these days is their ecosystem feels seamless but open. I really wish Apple and Google would experience the consumer negative sentiment Microsoft did. I think it is intersting that both Microsoft and Intel both were digin those heights but then got decimated. Microsoft is a little ahead on the curve of crash and then rebound. In both situations they got a new guy to say "leave the ego behind and lets get back to our roots and focus on our core functions. Make those good and get people to like us again...then we will grow." Microsoft started the plummet and rebound much earlier but Intel looks to be heading in the same direction in the next several years, Hardware probably also just takes longer than software to make the turn around take affect. No syncing, no need to shuffle files. Your computer is just with you all the time and can be what you need it to be in the moment. This is what I thought Microsoft would be smart enough to do with the Windows phone.
Microsoft Edge has gotten better now. It's so much better than Chrome. Edge with Bing actually gives you relevant search results unlike Chrome. Edge also has a ton of more useful features and it starts faster on Windows. Chrome now only provides ads.

Thanks bro!
Very well explained ✅ Thank you for sharing this ❤️
Using Edge as my main browser on desktop and phone since the last 6 months, even on my Mac... it has so many nice features, like they are actually trying to make it nice.
Your coverage over Bing vs Google has been partial and biased. I'm really disappointed.

I’m sorry to hear that man. Personally, I actually still use Chrome and Google. I just find it interesting how much progress Microsoft has made. But I understand that too many Microsoft videos feels repetitive. This will be the last Microsoft video for a while.
7:54 really? For which workload and how do you come out with that conclusion that Azure was cheaper than AWS?
This was a nice watch! They definitely pivoted. I think what's more interesting than their adoption/collaboration efforts are their diversification efforts.
I'm hoping that windows will publish a DLL for their browser. I used to have quite a few internet web scrapers that worked wonders for getting information from my various accounts. But since edge came out and I knew that IE was in it's numbered days .... I've struggled with continuing to scrape web page data. I know python has some excellent libraries for web related work. I've struggled to used them. I can't find simple scripts to learn from like I was able to use with the IE libraries.

Nobody: Microsoft in 3 years from now: "We are switching to a Linux kernel!!"
man...why is the background music is scary to me.... ringing any bells 😅
great video! But u r not right about WPhone - it was not just an alternative: it was faster, more convenient and tidy: it was better. Same could be said about W8.1
Crazy that with Windows11 they can easily get back in the phone market with that dope interface.
The Google Chrome preference has to do with the Google Ecosystem starting with Gmail, Search, Photos, Contacts, etc
i for one am getting fed up with "product ecosystems".
Personally, I prefer the Vivaldi browser. It gives me everything I want from a web browser, like built in ad and tracker blocking, tab groups and workspaces, etc. While not including intrusive bloatware, adds, AI, more adds, increased CPU usage, and even more adds.
IBM went from a hardware company to consultancy/services company. MS had to reposition. What MS is Windows, X-Box is services...
Great episode!! 🌟💯🌟💯🌟💯🤟
If MS discontinued Edge, then why can't I uninstall it from Win10?
This is all great. Just a side note that they are probably quiet because they are doing huge data mining now of their consumers. The amount of telemetry is now off the scale and some countries have banned O365 in the public sector because Microsoft won't even tell them what telemetry is being logged.
Awesome perspective. Humility allows you to be the slow and steady one that ones the race.
I tried it for a few days making it my default search. It just didn't deliver. Example, I was searching for my phone's latest update file. Nope. It just won't give and recent results. Another example is, some new Hindi song released. It only shows some news sites when I specifically search for it. Not a single KZread link to be found. Every single time, I had to open Google to get the perfect results. Yes, Google became bad at search, but even in it's current form, nothing is even close to it.
This makes a lot of good points, but straight up: the Zune and Windows Phone were both fantastic.
Microsoft didn't ENTER the smartphone space with Windows Phone 7... they invented the smartphone space in 2002 with Pocket PC Phone Edition. Windows Phone 7-8 was genuinely better than Android and iOS though in every way except marketing and the app ecosystem. The small number of people that tried it, loved it. The Zune HD was the best MP3 player I've ever seen, too. Extraordinarily good user interface design, but being released 10 years after MP3 players were popular was probably the biggest mistake.
After a decade and a half when I switched from firefox to chrome, today I switched to edge. I was fed up with how that browser performs on a very high end PC.
