I want to start a shrimp tank and have had freshwater moss growing nicely and was worried when I noticed these small creatures. After doing some research on these, I find some are actually beneficial

Love your page...but can you do videos on when and how to introduce them to your tank? And how much for the size tank vs the amount of fish to not eat the population to quick

i just got into the aquarium hobby and honestly i’m having more fun sucking up microbes with a pipette and looking at them under my microscope😅

Excellent! Still trying to figure out to keep some of these things going. Had some seed shrimp in a grow out tank and have now now. Do have scuds and works well as fry grow.

Thanks for watching! The scuds will do fine as the fish grow. When the fish are big enough they will eat the larger scuds. The fry will eat the newborn baby scuds. I always like to keep several tanks going that do not have fish in them to keep up populations of microphona... You can always feed them veggie scraps.

@@phillipsfishworks It's really ideal, but so hard to keep if we are just going casual with 1 tank. Because if population of anything gets extincted, you don't have spare to repopulate. Keeping different tanks is also good because increases genetic variability a bit.

Hey, thanks for sharing your knowledge.. I have 8.0 - 8.3 ph tank, is it too alkaline for scuds / cyclops / daphnia ? Second question, do you just put dry leave right away to the tank, or you have some process beforehand?

How would you go about adding biodiversity to a african cichlid mbuna tank? It's a 120g with a 20g long sump. Do you recommend removing sponge filter on intake and converting to a refugium? I am trying to run my light extra time to give them a good supply of algae with pretty good success. What would be the ideal sump/fuge setup? Should it be more like a saltware fuge?

In refugium is a good idea. Could also do it in the main tank. You just need an area that the fish can not disturb easily like large rock, rock piles... If you want to make the sump a refugium I would remove the sponge off the intake. You need the creatures to be able to freely travel. Good luck and interesting idea!

They usually get on plants and other hardscape. Some bacteria even come through waste of fish from their digestive system

In most situations they are simply not a big deal... if there population is enormous and causing a "real" problem then you could manually remove them with those glass tube planaria traps but I would personally not chemically treat for them... you must observe what they are really doing in your aquarium. What do you think the easiest way to quickly “culture” microfauna for an aquarium?

It starts with making sure the habitat is right for the microfauna... This does not need to be complicated. Could be coarse gravel on top of sand, leaf litter, live plants, floating plants, a layer of detritus or mulm... After you have the habitat then you need to add the microfauna. If you're using live plants or have a layer of mulm built-up there will already be some microfauna present. But there are ways to add more diversity to it. Adding plants, gravel or other material out of a established aquarium is one way... I am about 2 days away from launching my website. There I will have microfauna biodiversity packs available for sale. This would be a bag of material and microfauna out of my system that could be added directly to an aquarium or separate container for culturing... Bottom line is you need some kind of container with habitat in it and some microfauna. At that point give it a light, a small amount of food and some time to grow. Hope this helps.

how i cant grow that white dot flea, my stupid greedy glowfish always wipe them out even with 50%++ plant , floating plant from wild n very thick substrate(mud, gravel,sand). the only thing is grow is snail+tubifex sp

Lots of ways to do this... You can add material to your aquarium from another healthy established aquarium, experiment with wild samples or buy some kind of microfauna culture... Bottom line is if there are no micro creatures in your aquarium, they will not magically appear. They have to be introduced somehow. Good luck!

No. It's like drinking water from a pond or a lake. You can have no symptoms or just a nice explosive diarrhea.
